Right off the bat, we get a cameo from Ofuu lol. I did not expect this.
Okada Kiichi also had a similar cameo in episode 10, though the character was not an already introduced one.

Also notice how Jinya never mentioned his given name in front of Chiyo, but she knew it nevertheless. It is of course because she is a demon. Just kidding,

Now we have the reason why Jinya calls Kaoru Asagao and why he said he had known her for over 100 years. Not because Kaoru is a demon, but because this time travel.

Seeing Somegorou tease Jinya about Ofuu, then Nomari giving Kaoru the cold shoulder treatment was funny af
But then Nomari's promise to be Jinya's mother one day... I'm crying

One more episode left
Since they didn't wrap this case up in one episode, I guess they are cutting book 5 in two third, which is fcking strange, like literally who does that. Hopefully this means they have plans for a second season

Feel free to ask anything as usual

Wouldn't a movie be more likely?

The last case of book 5 is not long enough to be a movie of its own. Adding the beginning of book 6 to it wouldn't make much difference either, since they are set in different years and not closely tied together. Kijin Gentoushou overall is rather episodic, which makes it hard to adapt content in a movie format. I can only see the last case of the Meiji arc work as a movie, due to its massive length by Kijin Gentoushou standards. It takes up most of book 7.

I guess I'll have to rewatch this when the bds are out. I feel lost in many eps. But at the same time this anime is so beautiful. Only wish he'd have a romance with Oofu. I really dislike these vegan MCs...
These posts help a lot. Thanks!

I'm also going to rewatch it, but to see if the sketchier animations have been corrected.

Jinya's lack of interest in the women around him is understandable to some extent. He has plenty of time to settle down, so he doesn't rush things. Author also stated that he (or she, who knows) loves ambiguous relationships, so Jinya and Ofuu are likely to get an open ending, more than friends, less than lovers. He also might have had a one night stand in book 11, but I can't confirm that yet.

I'm glad I could help you with my post^^

I'm a bit confused regarding location. I know that Jinya is in Kyoto now, but I thought that Kadono, the village he knew Chitose from, was closer to Edo. Kadono didn't seem too far away from Edo. So unless I'm getting my locations mixed up, what is Chitose doing in Kyoto? Or was Kadono actually close to Kyoto and Jinya is visiting it?

@Axelerater It was at the start, before Miyaka met Jinya. There is a girl with long and black hair and a small build working at a flower shop named Miura. Miura is also the family name of Sadanaga and Naotsugu.

At the very beginning of the episode, there is a lady working in a present-day flower shop, which happens to be called Miura flower shop (and Ofuu's full name is Miura Fuu)
edit: yeah just like the person above said

@SuperDuperKnight In the first book, after Motoharu picked up the siblings after they ran away from their home, the trio had traveled on foot for 1 month before reaching Kadono. I am not sure if Motoharu was slowed down by the children, but in that era, traveling between Edo and Kyoto by foot would take an adult around 2 weeks, so Edo was likely to be further from Kadono than from Kyoto. I don't remember their relative positions though, so Kyoto might be near Kadono than Edo.

Rereading this story makes me feel like this is a good choice to close the season, if comparing it to the final story of Book 5. Not only it connects several plot points through out the season, including the first episode, the final scene of the story where Kaoru asked the same question she had asked Jinya in the past shed some light on the true meaning of his long journey. While it is still uncertain if there will be another season, I believe Jinya's answer could end up being an open ending, leaving his journey to the imagination of the audience.

In my opinion, Kadono is set somewhere in Nagano prefecture, given how the "real life Kadono" is also there

Since there are quite a few mountains in Nagano, it might have taken a whole month to get there with two children to slow you down

I think the name Aooni was also featured in a way in book 1, with the tale of the princess and the blue demon or idk what it was called exactly

It's been a while since I've read book 5 myself so you must be right. It just feels like a bit anticlimactic to me. If I remember correctly, there's a continuation of Streetwalker in the rain after the Vain flower chapter, that one also has a modern day scene with Jinya reading Kinu's memorials, I think that could have also been a great ending, giving Naotsugu's story and the season an emotional conclusion. Like that subplot is kinda hanging in the air rn

@Szabesz While Naotsugu's subplot kinda ended there, I found the story of Kinu's memoir only truly ends with the final story of Meiji arc where her reunion with Jinya pushed her to write the memoir, not only for her husband but also for their long-living friend. So by a miracle that the promotion poster for Meiji arc is really the signal that they will adapt at least that entire arc as a single cour season, I feel like the scene where Jinya reading the memoir in 2009 could serve as the opening and Kinh starting to write it could be the closing.
