I made a comment for episode 6 that I hope it's not Matakara who will be possessed by Ichiya because I don't want any more conflict between Arajin and Matakara. However, it was hard to ignore Matakara with a blue aura doing the bucchigiri pose from the opening. So, I'll spill my thoughts here. I'm sure almost everyone has an intuition that the fight between Honki will be the climax of this anime. In episode 6, we see Senya acting suspiciously. I think we all know why. Senya's main goal is to do a full merge with Arajin so that he can fight against Ichiya directly. In other words, Senya would take control of Arajin's body. To put it bluntly, Senya who has taken over Arajin's body will kill or injure Matakara's brother. This would be the foundation of the battle between Arajin and Matakara. Why did I think of this? Because I don't want the reason for their fight to be trivial or lame. First of all, Matakara is too goody two shoes. The only way for someone like Makatara to fall into despair is when they lose their loved ones. Look at how depressed, dark, or serious Matakara's face is when he does the Bucchigiri pose in the opening. Definitely not happy vibes when that happens. Their friendship stone is also shown in the opening which I take it that their friendship will really be tested. Again, how could their friendship be at the end of its rope when Matakara is too goody two shoes? Unless Matakara who is the main pillar of their friendship falls into despair.

Now we will discuss why Senya did that. There are many possibilities, but I believe Matakara's brother will play an important role in Matakara's fall. The first possibility is that Ichiya will possess Matakara's brother first. So, Senya and Ichiya will fight each other ferociously using their vessels. This ends with Matakara seeing Arajin kill or severely injure his brother. The second possibility is that Matakara's brother became evil. He's described as a nice guy, but that's a story of the past. It's not impossible that Matakara's brother became evil during his time in prison or at least he had a reason to do something evil. The second possibility itself could actually be several possibilities. Either Matakara's brother became evil or he was corrupted by Ichiya and either Arajin with his full consciousness was forced to fight against Matakara's brother or his body was taken over by Senya. In fact, all those possibilities could happen. All those possibilities would make Matakara fall into despair. Furthermore, there were two possibilities for Matakara himself. Matakara fought against Arajin with full consciousness or he was corrupted by Ichiya while falling into despair. How does their fight end? The scenario that usually happens in anime would have Matakara's soul trapped in darkness then the darkness is destroyed by Arajin accompanied by some light as he continues to call and reach out to Matakara lol.

That's the bad route. Let's continue by considering the good route. The good route is that Arajin and Matakara will fight, but the fight will take place with mutual honour. Their childhood dream was to become Honki. Instead of fighting with depression, they would fight with a smile. Actually, this could happen after the bad route. My personal hope is that it will be the first and last time Arajin becomes Honki. I think it would be great if this anime showed that people's dreams can change from childhood dreams. It would also be good if Matakara accepted the new version of Arajin and supported his friend's dreams. What is Arajin's new dream? I don't know yet. Arajin brought a guitar to school in the first episode. Maybe Arajin brought it to look cool, but what if Arajin is actually serious about playing music? We don't know yet. Well then, what else is left from this thread? We'll get back to discussing bad routes. There is still something to discuss about bad routes. The reason why I believe that Matakara will fall into despair is because there was a character in the original story who took revenge on Aladdin for the death of his brother. The original story here is not Disney. Many people think Matakara is Jasmine, but I think Matakara will represent the younger brother of an African magician from the original story. The African magician is also a genie master. This is why I think Ichiya will possess Matakara's brother first.

"Aladdin told him what had happened, and showed him the dead body of the magician, that he might believe. A ten days’ feast was proclaimed, and it seemed as if Aladdin might now live the rest of his life in peace; but it was not to be. The African magician had a younger brother, who was, if possible, more wicked and more cunning than himself. He traveled to China to avenge his brother’s death." [Source: https://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/141/the-blue-fairy-book/3132/aladdin-and-the-wonderful-lamp/]

Of course, Matakara doesn't have a personality similar to the younger brother. I was talking about their roles. Before this, I've also talked about how Mahoro is a representation of the Chinese princess who is Aladdin's wife: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?goto=post&topicid=2146355&id=70597855

I love how we naturally accepted that Shindou isn't the final boss lol. He's just too boring to be the final boss. So, what do you guys think? Is it a good theory (fanfic)? 🤓

Oh wow, the Aladdin theory is really interesting! I'm not at all familiar with the original version of this story so these references are all new to me, pretty wild how many connections there are that a lot of people probably have no clue about. I definitely think you're onto something here, given the OP hints and heavy focus on Arajin and Matakara's friendship the bad route feels very plausible. A bit too much so honestly, I'd rather nothing terrible happened to make these two drift further apart - especially after that moment they shared in the latest ep - but now I'm worried that's not possible... Still though, it will be very interesting if things go down in either of these ways. Personally I just want things to turn out okay in the end, and it would be cool if they could fight on friendly terms as well, so I'm leaning towards the good route.

The point about dreams is great as well, I've been hoping for them to elaborate on Arajin's music hobbies and I'd love it if playing bass became something he wanted to pursue. Not sure how well that would work in the story since it hasn't been brought up since Ep. 1 but it would just be nice if he found meaning in something else besides getting with a girl. It really is sad that he's empty enough as a person to feel like he "has no reason to live" except for Mahoro, I really want them to explore that character trait more instead of him just randomly getting over her one day and suddenly being normal or something.

I know it's a little long, but it's still only four paragraphs. The rest are just three short paragraphs. Big men are scared of paragraphs? Why so weak? So weak!

Well your theory is a lil bit more than a fanfic and to be fair based on the opening credits you might actually be onto something. But I don't think the bad route is likely cause it somewhat shifts the story from what's happening till recent episodes. I mean I could be wrong but I feel like the plot is building up on Arajin's development from his bitchy annoying self to maybe a strong willed fighter or whatever "honki people" represent. I still like your overall theory tho so hats off to you.

@Nabiot Thank you for the positive response. I hope you're right because I don't want anything bad to happen again between Arajin and Matakara. However, I'm afraid it's actually possible for the story to shift. If this is a 1 cour anime (12 episodes) then we have already finished the middle of the story. We will enter the real plot starting from episode 7.

I don't know if Senya will "take over" anyone for his own nefarious (?) goal. All we've seen Senya do is talk to Arajin, to encourage or provoke him into action. But Arajin often doesn't listen, and Senya always just goes with it. Also, it's always Arajin who calls upon Senya's power ("I want to lose my virginityyyy"), and only then Senya obliges. Full mind-control sounds a little... wrong to me, and so is causing harm to people that aren't really involved, purely to manipulate his "host."

I actually think Ichiya's similar; he's not "controlling" Shindou to do anything, only whispering in his ear to act on his worst impulses.

Of course, the writers could always pull a "you thought you knew Senya, but you didn't"... That would feel somewhat forced, but maybe they'll find a way that makes sense.

But yes, Matakara's brother will be the key to turn Matakara to "the dark side". Also, Ichiya will end up with Matakara. It's just not clear how we'll get there.

My guess is Shindou is going to pull something again to get back at Arajin and Matakara. Ichiya will encourage this and then seize the chance to switch to Matakara, who will be judged as the "better" host.
