She made it look like she wants to stand on top of everyone else and let look everyone else badly. Yuki can be a friendly person sure, but for how long? Also if your job is to sell lies then that's kinda crazy but alright ig.
How did you get that from that scene? That's really reaching there. Might as well say that she intentionally did Akane's nails so that the accessory would inevitably scar her. 4D chessplaying Yuki, clearly Aqua's future nemesis.

And the show since the start was all about selling lies, be it from actors for the sake of movies or  idols that sell fake love to their fans. Like, did you forget the premise of the show?

Well this is what I was expecting from when I posted my opinion, that someone would lash out on it, guess I was right.

To not outgrow this topic further, lemme just say this. Personally I don't like Yuki's character, may she be friendly or not or whatever, at that scene I felt like she was being harsh towards Akane since Akane already is doing her best to make it even on the screen time and she doesn't even end up on it, who does the whole time? You guess. Also you think I keep track what the premise of the show is? I forget things fast. I just enjoy the episodes that are aired and then give my opinion on the episode or a run down. Hope this clarifies your needs.

Holy shit that episode full sent it. I don't ever recall watching a show portraying hate and suicidal thoughts so realistically. Also the message in the end is not something I ever expected seeing in anime

No pun intended.

People online venting all their frustration on someone else over nothing as usual. Best to ignore toxic keyboard warriors if you don't have thick skin.

Aqua's save at the end was hype.

Tbh ep 5 was pulling me out of the story. I didn't feel at the edge of my seat about where the show could go and felt like it shifted tonally, the pacing also slowed a bit. But the second half of this episode brought me back with a sobering reality check about the nature of online critique. VAs for a disliked character or performance all too often get death threats, and people don't comprehend the damage that can cause to a person's psyche. I want more social commentary like this to be explored going forward.

This episode got very deep :(

I think Yuki did Akane's manicure with good intentions, but if her motive is other and did actually put that stone there on purpose so it can scratch somehow... well, she got what she wanted by making Akane step away, and not in a good way. What a "good friend" Yuki is if she keeps being silent by letting complete strangers badmouthing Akane and not explaining to the media what really happened. How mean, and she doesn't deserve Akane's kindness at all. Karma will bite Yuki when she least expected and I'm here for it. I am so glad Aqua was there on time to save her!

Can't wait for the next episode!

WHAT THE FUCK. This episode was crazy good and might even be one of the best episodes of anime this season. It really makes you think. My heart goes out to all who are or have been affected by suicidal thoughts. I don't know what to say, on the bases of quality it is definitely one of the best episodes of the season.

Still very pleased that this story doesn't sugarcoat the enormous pressure these young people are under. Ruthless pressure from sick loser fans and management alike. Poor Akane.

That said. I ask myself, Is she important to the overarching plot? Is she relevant as to finding out who the father/murderer is?

I'd say she's the only character besides Aqua who's relevant to finding out the father

This episode was so damn good. Really got into the pysche of Akane, and her descent into attempting suicide. Modern horror. Especially seeing the contrast between Akane's actual personality and the rumors.

She's not a shallow nympho-slut surrounded by men or someone who never put her soul into anything. She's just an earnest girl who's trying her best! She's exercising, taking notes, practicing the sword. She's worried about her manager and the agency and her mother and her supporters. She's just a teenage girl! Everyone's so mean to her!!! And the agency ain't doing shit to help her! No wonder she thought suicide was the only answer.

Apparently, this is based on a real life case. Hana Kimura, a female Japanese pro-wrestler, got embroiled in controversy after appearing on reality dating show Terrace House in May 2020. Except, it didn't end with just an attempt :(.

Remember to call 988 if you guys feel bad or know someone who's dealing with suicidal thoughts.

On a lighter note, I heard that we might be getting a second season announced already. It's only been 6 episodes! I remember when the anime was first announced that everyone was skeptical of Doga Koba. But I guess Doga Koba's reputation for doing cutesy slice-of-life anime worked well as a ruse for Oshi no Ko's real nature. Wholesome Idol anime lmao.

The very reason Oshi No Ko remains a 10/10
on my list, dont think ive seen a better way of showing how online trolling and toxicity can have very real and heartbreaking effect on people, and yeah, this is an anime, its fiction but this kind of thing happens day in and day out for thousands of people, and the things people say, wether its in a comment, a tweet, a facebook post, an instagram photo, can cause very real and long lasting damage to people, and i urge everyone to take a lesson from this episode especially, and just be kind, it doesnt cost anything

What a roller-coaster of emotions we are on BOYS AND GIRLS. The fact that I was 50/50 on if someone would catch her or not, says for me that the anime has managed to give me this sense of insecurity. Many MANY other animes it is real easy to predict outcomes like that, they have gotten to frequent and normal. But for some reason this anime simply makes you doubt your intuition. I was seeing the lead up to her attempt, but damn I was still unsure about what would actually happen. An anime that can manage that has a masterclasss writing

Hana Kimura

I have a feeling that this episode is inspired by the events that led to the suicide of this young Japanese pro-wrestler.

Hana was part of a reality show and there was an act where one of the cast had put her wrestling costume to wash which had shrunk, to which Hana did not react to it kindly.  People on Twitter literally commented on her posts of disgusting "harming herself" and whatnot messages and later ended up deleting those when she had passed away.

Cancel culture is a disgrace, and people part of it need to get their brains checked!

That was a heavy episode, it was amazing and very well made! But it was so hard to get through, I was holding my breath when I started to realize the direction it was going. I was so scared she was gonna kill herself, so glad Aqua made it just in time! I can't wait to see what happens next oh my god.

I wasn't expecting this episode to get as dark as this, but it did and then some. It didn't bother with any sugercoating and went all in, no holds barred, with the unjust and vile toxicity that social media can be in cases like this.

Poor Akane ended up getting on the receiving end when her move, in the name of "making a mark of herself" in the reality T.V series accidentally backfired. While Yuki, who had her face cut by Akane's fingernail by accident, was completely reassuring of Akane in that moment, the fans of the series on social media, regardless if they're hiding under an anonymous name or not, poured their vicious hatred at Akane. Sadly, the biggest mistake that Akane did was to respond with an apology, which was the equivalent of adding fuel to a raging inferno.

The spiral into depression only got worse and worse for Akane before she made the decision to try and end it all by trying to jump off a bridge over a highway, but thank goodness Aqua was there to save her at the last second and successfully pulled her out of harm's way. It's hard to know, being an anime-only watcher, how this part of the story will be resolved and if the reputation of the reality T.V series will suffer if people find out Akane's failed suicide attempt.

Either way, this episode was simply superb with its portrayal of the dark and nasty side of the internet. I can only hope that Akane get's the help and care that she desperately deserves now, the poor girl. =(
