Scum wish or I would like to call "kuzu no honkai" is a romantic drama anime which is controversial for its depiction of loneliness, one-sided love, and dealing with one's emotions. It can be genuinely frustrating because of how characters make illogical decisions based on feelings recklessly.

Oshi no ko comes from the same creator who created "Kuzu no Honkai".

Is it as dark as Kuzu no honkai in terms of its depiction of Idol culture?

Osho no Ko was not created by the author of Kuzu no Honkai, however, both manga share the same artist, but the writer is the Author of Kaguya-sama.

techinically aka is the author, not mengo yakoyari, but having read the latest few chapters of the manga, it does get pretty dark at times, especially in the later chapters. You could say the underage sex and unrequited love is kinda reminiscent of scums wish. Hanabi's art is also similar to ai's.

I did not complete scums wish (dropped on first ep didn’t like the way it was going plot wise) but Oshi no ko deserves all the praise it’s getting I highly recommend you watch it it’s absolutely a masterpiece in every sense of the word! (as an anime only for now)

Only the art is done by the author of Kuzu no Honkai. The story is written by the author of Kaguya-sama: Love is War.

You mean it’s not a rom-com anymore? What kind of cap are you saying here?

I recently rewatched Kuzu no Honkai (one of my faves) and I have to say that the first episode of Oshi no Ko reminded me of it for the way it portrayed the dark side of people's hearts with no sugarcoating and no hypocrisies, unlike most anime.

Even if Kuzu no Honkai's author is only in charge of the art, it doesn't mean that it doesn't have a say about the story. Or at least that's my impression, I don't know how this kind of collaboration usually works.

People explain it better.

But here's the quick answer.

Very different, not similar, same artist only.
