I feel like I'd get more accurate responses here rather than Manga discussion. usually VN adaptions are pretty poorly received by the people who have played the source, so I was wondering what people who have read both thought of this adaption; if it stayed loyal to the source or it adapted it differently and has some originality to it, If it's overrated by manga-only readers and what-not. If I read this over the VN am I missing a ton of the experience? Should I read both or does the adaption do it justice? What's the general consensus on this by the people who played it?

If you dont mind the opinion of one with "heard it from a friend" knowledge of the manga, but has personally only read both the original and chiru VN:
you should probably check out both. The manga is considered accurate, but very simplified to give easily understood solutions compared to the VN, so there's a huge preference for the VN as it's famous for being such a unique one of a kind experience no one can even think of anything similar to it. Both because Ryukishi calls it a Sound Novel for it's use of sound effects(like rain or a sudden impact) to set the creepy atmosphere and also it's style of giving you little more than tools and hints then telling you "trust nothing, not even the narrator, notice the contradictions, and solve not just the murders and Beatrice's riddle, but try to find the truth as well". Hence the VN fandom is full of endless theory crafting and interpretation

This is a really good answer, I appreciate it a lot. Taking it into account I'll probably just play the VN in that case.

@Zech_TearZ glad I could help, it's slow burn at times but that's a good thing. Gives you time to notice things and brainstorm. and while not necessary the TIPS side stories that peridocally unlock give some interesting insight into higurashi too as a bit of a bonus to go along with helping you out

thats unfortunate, but i can understand lack of time. Umineko is essentially 8 visual novels afterall. Glad you plan to check it out eventually tho

I agree that this is the better way to classify Umineko. There's no way it's 2 games, as Steam and VNDB would like to claim.

You can just read the manga. The thing about the vn was that people socialized and tried to solve the mystery while waiting for the next chapters. However, the pacing isn't really the best and the main protagonist can be off-putting. If you just want to follow the story, the manga is fine.

I haven't read the manga myself but considering I'm a very fast reader and the VN took me just over 120 hours of in-game time to finish there is no way any other medium besides maybe a LN can do the original VN justice.

Not to mention a very large amount of the charm of the VN is the audio effects and while voice acting wasn't in the original I think it's safe to say the voice acting is now a major part of umineko as a whole as well.

So yes, you'll be missing out on a lot and if you don't want to play the VN because you don't have time it's much better to just leave the VN as is and don't spoil it for yourself for when you find time down the road, it will always wait for you.
