I think it was the whole point of making Gon an 'uninteresting' / 'boring' character. Like, of course the other characters are so much more compelling and riveting but I don't think I can imagine HXH from the perspective of any other character - it wouldn't be HXH then, it'll prolly be a much darker, insidious show. Gon's able to keep the majority of the plot line light; his character strength is his ability to move on, without him, we probably would not have been able to see all these diverse characters in a single length.
The childishness of his personality argument bit in the comments, I personally find to be rlly unlettered- he's 12, yeah killua is the same age, but to what extent has Gon been forced to grow up like him, almost close to none - comparing the two is completely invalid. He acts his age, and it caters towards the plot/audience, he's got his strength and agility but as well as his playfulness and rawness - which is appealing to a much wider variety.
The purpose as to why I went on a sort of tangent, is cuz of some of the arguments on how he's a bad character 😭 he rlly isn't - and my opinion again, but I think he's a rlly suitable and strong main lead to the show. If you don't vibe w him, you don't vibe w him, I just don't think you should expect so much from any other 12 year-old from the get go - watch it with a completely empty mind to learn as he does about these new worlds unknown to him, battle his ups and downs of 'human' mistakes, relationships, etc. And i find these to make him such a loveable, such an accessible, human character. |
