I heard from some that it's just your typical harem filled with fanservice & ecchi. And that it's also very boring & uninteresting. The only positive being the animation.

From others, I've heard it's a masterpiece that everyone should check out. And that despite it being dialogue heavy, it's very interesting with great characters & character development. It also has amazing animation & catchy openings.

I don't know which side I should listen to for this, since it's a popular & highly rated series.
Is it worth watching or not?

I would say to check it out and answer that question yourself instead of letting others answer it for you.

Sometimes you'll miss out on a series you might like by listening to people who shit on the series. Happened to me with Toradora and then after I watched it I realized I liked it a lot contrary to what people said about it.

It's even more worth checking a series out when you hear conflicting views about it. Makes it all the more interesting because you don't know whether to expect it to be good or bad.

I'm about half-way through the series and I've enjoyed it so far. Can't lie I've skipped a few scenes that drag on with the dialog and the only other complaint I have is some major pedo vibes which creep me out, but overall I'm still watching. It's up to in the end see if it appeals to your personal taste. I say give it a shot.

It's your choice if you wanna watch it, but for me I'll recommend it. Even though it's filled with fanservice and ecchi, what I really liked about the Monogatari series is how the characters are written and how the protagonist interacts with his harem, but that's for me. You should try it out, you might enjoy it too.

I can see where both of those viewpoints are coming from. So far I've only watched Bakemonogatari. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. Might pick the series up again at a later time. It has a good premise and a strong cast of characters, so if you don't mind dialogue-heavy shows it's at least worth giving it a shot.

P.S. Katanagatari is from the same author and is one of my favorite shows ever. Highly recommended.

Watch 'Bakemonogatari' (since it's the introduction) and then decide. I'm same as you thinking at the beginning overwhelmed by people saying it's only famous for it's ecchi, fanservice moments(which is kinda true) but now I'm watching Owarimonogatari and it's definitely lot more, interesting and engaging than just fanservice. I can't really recommend because some people may put off by the fanservice moments in the early installments. So, watch Bakemonogatari and see for yourself if you can go through it.

Imo only if you enjoy watching typical "stupid friends being stupid together" with very fun dialogue for like half the series.
I mean, action scenes etc. are really lovely, but for me Monogatari shines with comedy scenes and dialogue
9/10, totally love it
But yeah, you should just check for yourself

Finished it last year and it became one of my favorites, it has a lot to offer to those who keep interested. It definitely can get boring in the start because you need to adjust to how this series does things, but if you learn to like it, you'll probably end up falling in love.

monogatari is anything but typical, it is true that if dialogue heavy shows and ecchi vibes aren't youe cup of tea, then you probably shouldn't watch this, but honestly the dialogue is incredible and the fanservice(like some other elements of the show) is kind of parody-esque so i dig it.
it also has an amazing cast of characters, some of the best female characters in anime IMO and very engaging and unique art style.
like some other people said, try bake and find out if you like it, though i personally think there are much better arcs after the first season.

They'd be right when they say it's boring, because it really is one of the most overrated and boring anime I have watched. But with that said Kizumonogatari is great so i'd skip the rest of the monogatari series and only watch Kizumonogatari since it's the best and you don't need to watch the other monogatari series to get into it

I’d say give bake a kizu a try. I’m only saying both because I didn’t really like bake but I loved kizu and it got a 10/10 from me and that’s what kepted me watching. It’s one of my favourite series but I’d be lying if I say that some parts aren’t boring. If you don’t like it drop it. Also there might be some parts where you might feel abit uncomfortable and if you don’t like it I also recommend dropping it since it doesn’t really stop.
