No, i don't think the old watchers are the main problem.

- First problem was Dragonball super fans who are frustated about Dai airing instead of DBS and rating down Dai for no reason.
- A lot of shows are airing at the same time : Jujutsu Kaisen / SNK / 7deadly sins etc.
- First episodes : colours and design. A lot of people categorized this show for little children

Let's supposed everyone is honest and all data are correct. The interpretation of "the highest ratio of favorites / viewers" is not about best anime, it's actually show which anime has the best advertising. That means the advertising made it clear of what the anime is about.

A prime example would be Ishuzoku Reviewer, people already know from the cover picture and news site like ANN that it's about prostitution. People that hate that topic won't even watch it in the first place, while people that love lewd thing will looking forward to it, and they're not gonna be disappointed because the anime is really about prostitution.
