^Rudeus basically admitted that he peeped his niece when she was in the bathroom.

I still love Mushoku Tensei's story, but honestly, I think this is where I would say enough, the author has gone too far. And I won't blame the others if they hated it.

But I'm really curious about the other's opinion, is this trainwreck of a chapter still justified the entirety of MT existences?

Not at all, this is already far into Rudy's story and Rudy is pretty much unrecognizable from when he was a child and more so during his past life.

The Aisha and Ars chapter was deleted for a reason and the author wanted to eventually rewrite it. But apparently it's still canon.

Also for reading this far into the story I thought you would have pretty much understood how much of a piece of shit Rudy was. Also the title is kind of misleading , he didn't have a criminal record, rather this was pretty much the main reason his siblings started beating the shit out of him.

not sure where the author was going with that, no defence, it's wrong.

Up until I read that chapter, I truly believed that Rudy is just a weeb who watched too much hentai.
Knowing that he did a pedophilia crime really brings a weird feeling to my stomach.
On one hand, I acknowledged the progress he has been through in the new world, on the other hand I felt disgusted because I had cheered a former pedo.

Is anyone really surprised by this? Peeping on his cousin is pretty tame compared to what he's been doing with Eris lol

it was there in the web novel, not in the light novel. Also it wasnt a case of peeping. He had joined an online forum, where users uploaded dirty pics (you can guess what type of pics).

As a requirement for joining, he had to submit one himself, but since he doesnt go outside of his room, he set up a cam in the bathroom, and took a vid of his niece peeing. However, before he could submit it, he got the news that his parents had passed away in an accident.

Due to stress because of loosing his source of income - his parents, he starts masturbating (it is his reaction whenever faced with problems). His d doesnt get hard so, he starts masturbating to the vid of his niece which you see in ep 1. Even then it doesnt get hard.

As to why did the author decide to do this, my interpretation of the scene is this. The only person who still had any hope for him was his elder brother. Mostly because of guilt as his bro ignored him when Rudy was bullied in high school.

By doing this, Rudy wanted to in a way self-sabotage himself and his relationships. He was never interested in his niece. He clearly mentions that in the novel. According to him, he just did it because he could. Obviously when his bro sees Rudy with the vid of his daughter, he goes ballistic and beats up Rudy. In the web novel, unlike the anime, Rudy didnt fight back, he just cried and asked for it to be all over. He wanted to ask for forgiveness, but any voice wont come out since he hasnt spoken with anybody since the last 20 yrs. His bro kicks him out of the house and basically says to never come back ever again.

This is also the major reason, why Rudy does a meaningless self sacrifice by giving up his life for the teenagers in front of the truck. He didn't want to protect the high schoolers, rather the last person who wanted him alive now wanted him dead, so in a way he was finally free to commit suicide.

Actually, once this web novel started getting popular in Japan, a lot of new readers also bashed the author for this part of the story. The author also contemplated whether he should just stop writing and give up. But his old fans as well as the other authors including the author of Re:zero convinced him to write the story as he sees fit, and also to keep this part of the story since it was important for describing how low Rudy had fallen in his previous life. However, the first few chapters were still re-edited and in the manga and light novel, they replaced that scene with him jacking off to loli hentai. But I guess, the anime producers wanted to keep that scene in because it was a huge turning point, not in the story but in the authors mindset. The support he got from his friends and fans allowed him to not fall to the whims of his readers and write the story in a way he saw fit.

Many people will just read your post and like you, say the author has gone too far, the author is a pedo himself, rather a lot of people already have, but those who have read the novels, know that the story isnt as simple as that.

Also, if you have read the novels, then you know a person who can write a beautiful story like this just won't include such a serious matter just for shock value or gags. There is a reason as to why he wrote it. And its on you whether you want to look at it superficially and dismiss the whole story, or go deeper and understand why it was written the way it was.

Nagatsuki Tappei (ReZero): It goes without saying that "Mushoku Tensei" is interesting, but first of all, it's amazing that you were able to depict the life of one character, Rudy. People say that "CLANNAD" is life, but for me, "Mushoku Tensei" is life

The reason for removal was simply that the author was hit with a notice of breach of terms from the publishing platform due to the incest content.

So even though it got removed, the author made it clear that it's still canon, and this seems to mortify fans who cannot defend it (although some still try by writing essays about how deep this is lol)

Probably the same reason that he gave to Rudeus the character for doing pedo stuff: just because he could.

People defend that chapter? Can't say I've seen that, especially here... Most fans hated that chapter, and it's basically karma coming back to bite Rudy in the ass hard for what he did in his past.

As to the title, I mean, yeah he would be if he was reported to the police and convicted. The author definitely went hardcore with it, but keep in mind the web novel is essentially fanfiction without any editing passes. And as we can see with the light novel, the editor and author probably came to the conclusion that he took it too far on that one and removed it. *shrug* Who knows though. This was his first successful work afaik, so early hiccups in writing are kinda to be expected.

You're right. It's usually too much to defend so what I've seen around here is that they mostly resort to saying "not canon", "deleted"... but it's still canon whether people like it or not.

As I said in my previous post, the reason for removal was that the author was hit with a notice of breach of terms from the publishing platform, not because he self-reflected "ok maybe this is too filthy even for me".

Thank you for this post. It explains a lot.

Past-Rudy's behaviour was disgusting, but in a way, understandable. It does indeed show how low he has fallen. And the mind of a person in that state doesn't work in an "usual" way, so it's better to now be so quick to judge.
