Hello there, I am kinda bored of harem/school animes, so I have decided to post a new topic on this forum where I ask you to recommend me animes like Evangelion.
I mean it doesn't need to be with robots and things like this, just to have the same drama amount and emotional impact.

P.S: I really enjoyed Mirai Nikki.

I think when a lot of people think of really existential anime like Evangelion, the mind seems to always go to Serial Experiments Lain. I agree that it is interesting, though I'm of the personal mindset that Paranoia Agent is seriously underrated whereas Lain is a bit bland. This anime has so many twists and seems to build to one idea, then completely switches to another. I think this can be said for almost all of Satoshi Kon's works, though this is my favorite of his.

First of all, I've seen that you don't have End of Evangelion on your list, so it's a must watch if you love Eva.

As it's mentioned before - Serial Experiments Lain - it is heavy inspired by Eva's more psychological and 'messed up' scenes, also cyberpunk shows and movies like "Ghost In The Shell". It focuses on young, shy girl Lain Iwakura as she steps into the virtual world and slowly sinks in it, to the point when she don't know what is real anymore. The show is pretty dark and often has some serious David Lynch vibes (don't know if you're familiar with his works; maybe you've heard about "Twin Peaks"). And the scariest part is how it's still relevant after 21 years...

Darling in the Franxx - besides very heavy inspirations, or sometimes even straight rip-offs from Eva and questionable artistic decisions in the final episodes I actually enjoyed it. It has similar kind of drama, but not as heavy, and it's very emotional, if you will like the characters and story of course. And Zero Two is not a 'discount Asuka' :D

That's all from me for now, but I might come back if I'll find more...

P.S: We're both from '98 :D

I would ask you to give Code Geass and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles a try.

Also, I see you have seen Clannad.
If you liked that one you should check out the works from the same studio.
Like Air TV, Angel Beats and Kanon.

Soukyuu no Fafner is a must watch, it initially starts out VERY similar to Evangelion, but soon grows its own legs as it tackles themes of communication and harmony. It honestly gets better with every installment as you go through the sequel material.

Idolmaster Xenoglossia and I'm not joking. It's a bit of a slow burn, but getting all that time to really take in the characters before stuff gets intense makes it hit even harder when it does.

Eureka Seven often gets labeled as an Evangelion clone, despite it's story and characters being more similar to both the original Gundam and After War Gundam X. That being said, this does have all the drama and intense story development you're looking for. Like Idolmaster Xenoglossia, this is a bit of a slow burn, but a very enjoyable watch that tells a great coming of age story.

Dual Parallel is a straight up parody of Evangelion. It's not all that serious but it's a fun watch and has some fairly serious moments in it. It is still a Tenchi Muyo spin-off, so there is a minor harem element to it, but it's nowhere near as pronounced as in the main series (and mostly kinda serves as an exaggeration on the Rei/Asuka/Misato waifu wars from Eva)

Shifting gears to pre-Evangelion releases, Hades Project Zeorymer has a lot of elements that Evangelion would later touch upon. As a 4 episode OVA, Zeorymer doesn't have as much of an overarching narrative, but the animation and fights are great, as all the machines really feel powerful. It has a similar premise to Evangelion as well with the MC being ripped away from his everyday life and forced to become the last hope for humanity.

Gainax's previous work before Eva, Gunbuster also feels like a proto-Evangelion at times. It's not totally similar, but you can tell they tested some things out in that before putting it all to work in Evangelion. The sequel, Diebuster, has the same kind of feeling when compared to Gurren Lagann.

The original Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam were both major influences on Evangelion as well, with their MCs being reluctant pilots, and depressing atmospheres in their stories (especially in Zeta). The original still has some of that 70s goofyness and cheesiness, so if you want a version of the original series story that cuts out all those parts, then watch the movie trilogy version before going into Zeta.

Space Runaway Ideon was one of the most MAJOR influences on Eva, with an unforgivingly dark and depressing story, and the heavy consequences it leads to. Similarly to how the TV series of Evangelion wasn't able to provide the intended ending, this didn't either, and just like Eva did with End of Evangelion, the Be Invoked movie provides the true ending.

Outside of stuff that's directly related to Evangelion, I recommend watching RideBack, which focuses on the MC having to deal with the consequences of her actions when she ends up making a rash decision after indulging in a new hobby and letting it overtake her better judgement.

Armored Trooper VOTOMS tells an engaging story of a fugitive soldier on the run, with nice battles and a plot filled with intrigue. Chirico's stoic and introspective attitude is a breath of fresh air from the more talkative MCs anime tends to have, and his inner monologues give the show a unique air.

I suggest RahXephon.

Has a great OP, too. Sung by Sakamoto Maaya who also appears as a seiyuu in the show.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena is to classic shojo what Evangelion is to classic mechas.

Twelve Kingdoms Much like Shinji, Youko is an insecure teenager desperate to be accepted but afraid of being herself, who's thrown into a typical ficiton situation, in this case becoming the queen of a magic kingdom instead of piloting a mecha, and she reacts less willingly that is usually expected.

RahXephon The best EVA clone that came out in the early 2000s.

And besides Serial Experiments Lain, I think you should chek out Haibane Renmei.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Evangelion's most optimistic cousin.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Taking into account you said you also liked Mirai Nikki, this can do it.

Yeah saw them already just forgot to add them on my watchlist, apologies for that.

So on I added most of the animes I got recommended to my plan to watch list, I will just shuffle them a little bit and just pick random animes to watch every week, unfortunately, I just started to watch anime 3 months ago, so I kinda feel sad i didn't hear about great animes like Cowboy Bebop, Mirai Nikki, Fma or Evangelion before.

Get you facts straight and try to do some research next time before making claims that are plain wrong. Here is a quote from the wikipedia page of Lain;

"The authors were asked in interviews if they had been influenced by Neon Genesis Evangelion, in the themes and graphic design. This was strictly denied by writer Chiaki J. Konaka in an interview, arguing that he had not seen Evangelion until he finished the fourth episode of Lain. Being primarily a horror movies writer, his stated influences are Godard (especially for using typography on screen), The Exorcist, Hell House, and Dan Curtis's House of Dark Shadows. Alice's name, like the names of her two friends Julie and Reika, came from a previous production from Konaka, Alice in Cyberland, which in turn was largely influenced by Alice in Wonderland. As the series developed, Konaka was "surprised" by how close Alice's character became to the original Wonderland character"

Source : http://www.konaka.com/alice6/lain/hkint_e.html

In other words, unlike what you claim, Lain was not inspired by NGE at all.
