As a good supporter, I can totally say that finding the timing, the right things to say, and even understanding the other person can be a real slog, a true torture for the impatient and a true test of wits for the empirical. Not that the payoff isn't worth it, seeing my young fräuleins and damoiseau abandoning their state of loneliness warms some part in my heart - and on the other side, it helps me keep my (unpaid) "job". Overly emotional students are my best bet - doesn't mean that I always end up helping them but, you know, there's nothing bad with trying your best. |
