If I asked you what anime was your first, most people would say "Pokemon" or "Dragon Ball", so I want to ask a more interesting question: What anime really got you into anime? For me, it was One Piece. The great characters and worldbuilding completely captured me, and I knew I needed more.

When I was young I used to watch and absolutely love Beyblade not knowing it was anime. Flash-forward a couple years later and YouTube is spamming my in boxes with clips of OPM and I finally collapsed and watched it. That initiated my decent into weebhood.

A bit of an odd one, but i got into it through a combination of Initial D and Doki Doki Literature Club. I'm a bit of a car nut so i knew OF Initial D but i had never watched it. Then i saw gameplay of doki doki and fell in love with the art style. I looked for things similar to it and i found anime.

The first anime i watched was Another. It is still the most gorey and dark anime i've watched to date.

I loved Initial D so iconic, never finished past the 5th season tho but everything up till there was gold.

As a kid, I loved Pokemon Digimon and Beyblade not knowing they were anime. At 16, my friend urged me to watch Deathnote, It was cool then Code Geass but then they were the masterpiece so not much into it

But for me, it was my 3rd, Fate Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks that got e going.

I feel like alot of peoples first "real" anime is Death Note. Its such an entry anime but doesn't really portray some of the best characteristics of anime i think.

Sad for your friend. Anime is so much better once you leave the "mainstream shows" and watch whatever interests you!

Well, back then we could watch it slowly as kids. But being older, to begin such a long anime (not to mention massive fillers) is gna be hard haha

Filler episodes are nice if your devoted to the show but I just have the time or attentions span for a +100 series...

I mean, I always loved the art style when I saw it on various places on the internet when I was younger, but I didn't know what anime was. When I did find out what anime was, my older sister went on about how stupid it was, and being the bully she was, I didn't even try watching anime. Years later though, I decided to watch anime no matter what she had to say about it, and asked a friend for recommendations. He suggested Sword Art Online, and, for all its flaws, I still love SAO. The first few seconds of the OP still get me every time.

(BTW I get on with my sister now, all is forgiven)

The first anime that I actually sit down and watch is Tokyo Ghoul, which was recommended by my friend, and the anime that got me into watching anime is Karakai Jouzu No Takagi-san and Toradora. I have seen a few other anime before tokyo ghoul, but I watched it not for watching it, but because its on tv, and when i was small, i watch everything on the tv, those animes are naruto, dr slump, pokemon, bayblade, yu gi oh, one piece, digimon, and conan, which i start rewatching now.

Pretty basic but the first anime that got me interested was Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Sword Art Online. I wasn't huge on anime but when my cousin told me about this show where people get trapped in a video game and die IRL if they die in the game I was definitely down for it so I watched it and loved it. I watched shows here and there but I didn't start seriously watching shows until this year

I agree. as long as J.C. doesn't mess up too much with animation, I think S02 will be satisfactory, at the very least.

Boku no Hero Academia was the first anime I ever watched, and it hooked me good. I was in a lot of fandoms like Undertale, Steven Universe, and DDLC that also contain a lot of anime fans, so I noticed that a lot of artists I liked from those fandoms also posted a lot of BNHA stuff. Eventually I just needed to see what all the fuss was about, and I’m so glad I did.

My first anime was Death Note. Before that, the "Dub" anime I saw was Digimon. I've always been more of a Digimon than Pokemon fan. I've yet to see past the 3rd season though.

Since then, I've not watched too much anime. At least I think. So after Death Note, I got into Berserk '97, Attack on Titan, Erased and Hero Academia. Now I'm watching through Made in Abyss and Goblin Slayer.

Kiki's Delivery Service when I was around 3 years old. And then seeing Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Digimon on TV as a kid really solidified my love for anime...

And then it wasn't until like Inuyasha that I became a NEET lmao...

I also grew up in a predominantly Asian city (I'm half Asian) so it's hard to avoid

Interesting topic and all good choices. Now if we put all these Pokemon etc shows aside, for me it was Rozen Maiden (original). Probably wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much now as I did back then, but it definitely was a show for me at the time.
