| The ratings seem to be exaggerated by fanboys/girls or haters often. I read the synopsis and make my own mind up. Sometimes the if you liked you might like...are helpful. I don't look at the ratings til after I've rated. I don't read the reviews til I've watched it. |

| Yes but it has been wrong on far too many times. There are many animes that are highly rated due to non-response from people with indifferent opinions. There's also "mob mentality" which creates assumptions about some animes, which may cause them to be automatically perceived as good or bad. Often times individual reviews are a much better indication, I use this site: http://www.nihonreview.com/anime/ |
| Shows with high MAL ratings do tend to get watched by me if only to see what all the fuss is about. But MAL has terrible taste so if I want to watch something that looks interesting and has a rating below say 7.5 (which for MAL is already damn low), I'll go ahead and watch it and probably enjoy it more than the stuff MAL likes. |
