Alternative version VS Sequel VS Spin-off

IMO this anime is clearly an alternative version of the original Steel Angel Kurumi, not a sequel. Yes, it is set to happen 75 years after the original and it even has the same opening theme lyrics, but besides that there is nothing in common between them. This reminds me a little of Kiddy Grade and Kiddy GiRL-AND(which I think should be a spin-off). Except that in this case the difference is even more obvious.
