I was wondering about the last scene with the old man's comment when mentioned "how foolish", it occurred to me that it was one of those classic schemes of "finding a scapegoat to cover up someone's crimes" type of ploy. Pretty pathetic for the male character to give into corrupted desires so easily. fool only has himself to blame.
