Watched Neon Genesis Evangelion and loved it, the same for the awesome films they made from it, I've been thinking of reading the manga and I saw that it's actually airing, is it really? And what about the story, is it worth it?

The manga is still publishing, yes. And the story is the same really. This review should clear things up.
