| Michelle and Cleo do fall in love over the course of the series. It's very sweet. As for same-sex... well, it's never explicitly discussed, but the third of the main characters - Vetti - is most likely gay. That best explains his responses and reactions in many situations. He has a younger lover, although it's more implied, because all they really show are embraces. He also marries at some point and went to great lengths to seduce that woman, but isn't actually interested in sleeping with her (he actively spurns her advances once they are married).
