I started watching anime when i was still in primary (elementary) school. I used to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion on a sunday morning after i returned from singing lessons. I watched the whole thing when my older brother decided to purchase the DVD boxset a few years later.

Since then i started watching other anime's on television (such as Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Outlaw Star) until eventually i discovered how great the internet really is =D.

My first anime was pokemon, but i really got into it after watching german dub naruto on tv and it was like "what? they're re-runnung the zabusa arc AGAIN?"

Then I started watching japanese anime with english subs and recognized how poor german dubs are xD

I technically watched a few episodes of DBZ, Sailer Moon, and Pokemon way back when, but I didn't really understand that what I was watching was anime, and besides, that story is much less fun :P

Back when I first came into possession of broadband internet, I found myself searching for Final Fantasy videos on Kazaa, what I would today call AMVs. In doing so, I came across something called Final Fantasy Unlimited. I did some research, and it turned out it was some sort of japanese cartoon that people were calling "an-eem". So I started watching it, and I found it fascinating. I went to that sub group's forums to ask for some recommendations, and I found myself with Scryed and Noir. Scryed was even better than FFU, and Noir to this day holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite shows of all time. I can pinpoint the moment, the casino scene in episode 3, where I officially went from interested to hooked. I kept going from there, and then befriended a bunch of anime fans in college, which really skyrocketed my fandom abilities.

Everything began in 2003 when one of my friends asked me to download episodes of Dragon Ball for him.
After a while I thought, "Anime, maybe I will give it a try".
I watched Spirited Away and loved it and thought like "Wow, give me more".
Then I watched Serial Experiments Lain and the rest is history.

it was only years later when we found out it was all called anime lol

I used to watch Cartoon Network, WB20, and etc that aired some anime.

One day at my public library, I found a volume of manga. Looked more interesting than normal comics (with it being shoujo and all) and decided to give it a shot.

I got hooked in anime eversince 1994, when I watch Sailor Moon. Since when I noticed that animated shows orignating from Japan has a better storyline than the Western animated shows during those time, I prefer to watch anime since it has more intersting stories than the Western ones which is repetitive and boring

Lizlet L Chelsie and Anri Hiiragi are my waifus!! XD

My friend always had cartoon network and i didn't so I used to watch some anime over his house, then when I started renting on Block Buster the first anime I picked up was Ghost in the shell, at the time I was going threw puberty and just wanted to see some thing naked, I knew ghost in the shell has nudity in it and nothing else really, but my Mom would just think it's a normal cartoons, So not really knowing anything about Ghost in the Shell I rented it souly based on the fact it has nudity, but after I watched it, it opened my mind and I fell instantly in love with anime, and I would return to block buster grabbing what ever anime I could find, after I ran block buster dry, I found out about torrents and it's all History from there.
It doesn't think, it doesn't feel, it doesn't laugh or cry..... All it does from dusk till dawn is make the soldiers die.

I watched a lot of anime as a kid, mainly Pokemon, DBZ, Sailor Moon, and CardCaptor Sakura. Back then I didn't know it was called anime. One day in Sam Goody (a movie/music/game store), I noticed there was an anime section. I spent a few minutes looking at the DVDs thinking to myself "Look, there's Pokemon, and Dragonball Z, etc.". That's when I knew that I wanted more of these "anime" cartoons.

Old School Toonami = WIN

It was awesome before 75-80% of it's anime was taken off the schedule.

Ahh, ever since I was young. I'm not sure what was the first one; I watched a lot of the ones that were on CN (Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Tenshi Muyo, DBZ, etc.) but at the same time my brother was borrowing Ranma 1/2 from the library. I didn't know it was anime, though.

Then, several years later, when I'm in 3rd grade... I'm sick and at home with my homeschooled buddy-brother, and he's watching Uchuu no Stellvia on the computer. He decides to let me watch with him, and that's when I seriously started watching anime. He must've discovered it long ago without my realization... and then he bestowed the gift of anime upon his sister! He must've been hoping to foster fandom in me, I suppose.

My brother is so cool!

When I was a kid, I watched whatever was on TV. To list a few anime I watched back then: Transformers, Dragonball, Sailor Moon. I watched Evangelion with my cousin and thought that was cool, despite being ignorant to the mind blowing wtf parts. Then Pokemon came out, then Digimon, Then Cardcaptors. Then Gundam Wing and Escaflowne. My friend introduced me to .Hack, subsequently, my cousin lent me a bunch of anime dvds (including .hack). After that I realized I could download these shows off the internet and then got hooked on everything else I watched... So essentially, I've always been into anime, and my cousin has clearly been influencing me XD

I watch a lot of dragon ball z back when I was a kid. At the time I didn't know it was an anime. I just thought it was a cool cartoon. Then I was talking about it with some of my friends and they suggested some other anime and I asked, "What's anime?" They laughed at me of course because I had no idea what they were talking about. But it just grew after that. And now I'm a big Otaku.

Multiple causes.

~Pokemon and Hamtaro when I was little (I didn't get cable until 2nd grade, so I didn't grow up on Sailor Moon and when I saw DBZ at my grandparents I got bored easily.)
~Studio Ghilbi. I saw Totoro and Pom Poko one night at my other grandperent's house when I was 10 and I loved it.
~Avatar. Seriously. In 2004 Nick came out with Avatar and Martin Mystery (Faux anime XD), but despite the fact I didn't watch MM, I started to like the art!

This one will shock the crap out of you, but
~I used to subscribe to Nick Magazine, and they had a comics issue, and the 'comics' they mentioned were Manga and Anime. I read the articles and I was like "No way! Pokemon's from JAPAN????" (I was 10 remember!), but then I started watching....I think Azumanga Diaoh was my first subtitled anime. My friend saw it while I was, but then she watched more anime and now I think she's seen at least 100 and she's a year younger than me XD;;

I used to watch some random anime shows as a kid, but they don't really have any effect on this.

About two years ago I was on a website reading fanfiction a lot, and it was mostly about Naruto. Since I felt kind of dumb that I didn't know anything about it, I started watching the show. Since it was amusing, I watched other anime shows, and eventually got to where I am now.

Shows as a kid, then a couple movies I came across on TV (Princess Mononoke, Armitage and Akira)
Then I got the internet (dail up, holy shit so bad..), was bugged by my bud to watch some, watched Naruto and Bleach first, then spread out and got into better anime. Rest is history~

I used to watch DBZ and Digimon when I was younger never really understood that it was anime. My cousin was the one who got me into anime by letting me watch his copy of Wolfs Rain, and from there I moved on to Fullmetal Alchemist when I went to live with my dad for a semester and I've been hooked ever since.

Very start of anime would be DBZ and Gundam Wing a long long time ago. After that, I watched Naruto, marathoned it, started Bleach, and it went downhill from there. Kinda sad that Naruto is usually the stepping-stone anime when there are so many better shows out there.

Last school year I watched a lot of drama/scifi, sga, bsg, firefly dvds,...

Sort of ran out of things to watch (ok BSG still airing, still watching so exited)... earlier this school year I mentioned I was ging to dig up Gundam Wing again I watched it on tv an downloaded but never watched it again.

It started from there, gave me FMA, EVA,... went from there. I now spend way to much time on anime. But I'm not regretting it yet.

I got really into anime during late elementary school and Junior High. Then when i found out there was anime and manga at the local libary, i got obsessed with manga and thats what got me into reading so much shojo.
