like many people said it depend on DvD/Bluray selling cause anime use money to made,so if you want season 3 you can be the one who help it happen by buying it.

I hope purchasing light novels help with their sales numbers a little bit. I definitely want more seasons and they have plenty of material to work with now that the novels are finished.

God I really hope we get more Spice and Wolf in anime form. I've started to read the novels and have been loving them. I just couldn't take it anymore!

totally just throwing a speculation out but here is my idea on season 3: look for an announcement late this year or early next year.

you will see that season 1 is composed of volume 1 & 2
season 2 is volume 3 & 5
but now their already up to volume 8 (9&10 to come out later this year)

look at the dates between when the anime came out and when the novels came out. volume 1 came out December 2009, while season 1 came out January - march 2008. how often do you see an anime that comes out BEFORE the novel? and it was out almost 2 years before the novel! now on to season 2: it was released july - september 2009. but the novels for the story came out December 2010 - 2011. another 2 whole years before! they did it again, novel 2 years after the anime. the whole reason the first series of FMA sucked was because it cought up to to the manga and she didn't want the anime to spoil the books. while spice and wolf, passed the novels story line by 2 years every time!

now that the novel has caught up and passed the anime (volume 6 -7 - 8 - 9 - 10) they can now go ahead with what i think will be season 3 (volume 6 & 8) and season 4 (volume 9 - 10). because everyone who watched spice and wolf got so hooked, the novel sales exploded because the anime ends in the middle of the adventure.

and I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple OVA/special episodes covering volume 7 (because volume 7 is: "a series of short vignettes focusing on the fans’ favorite characters")

but that just me hoping my favorite anime will double in size and make my life complete ^.^

They pretty much already did this. Episode 7 of season 1 and the prequel OVA to season 2 were taken from volume 7.

The left out one of the side stories, and although it shows off a Holo 200 years prior to meeting Lawrence, it was not a very good chapter.

The information you found having the first volume being released on December 2009 is the English release translated and licensed by YenPress. The Japanese and original debut of Spice and Wolf was early 2006.

As for the continuation for this unforgettable series, its future does not look bright. The light novels have finished, and the author as long since moved onto new projects. While I believe that a third, fourth, or however many seasons it takes for Spice and Wolf to have a full anime adaptation would be one of the best things I could hope for, if there is no word of a season 3 by the end of this year I fear it will never come.

Yeah, sadly it might not come. The worst part is that tons of mediocre or bad anime are getting a new season. They can skip Volume 7, and start the Cole arc, even though I didn't really like him.

Yoshii Kiria took over as leader of Fairytale and rebuilt it and became one of Tsukunes formidable enemies but let's save that story for another time

what's funny is that the petition is petioning a dubbing company...not the actual studio that makes the anime. Funimation doesnt make S&W. it only dubs it into english. despite that, i still signed it lol. i just want this anime to continue :c!

im surprised Mushishi has an 8.8 review on Anime list ._. that's amazing! S&W is near those figures, so i can only hope the circumstances to making a third season for S&W is a similar reason they decided to make one for Mushishi.

Well on the DVD release for Mushi-Shi it says complete collection on the box, not series. Where as Black Lagoon & The Devil is a Part-Timer have no indications of being complete series/collections anywhere on the box, only in the sale title. Don't know if that stuff has any significance. Either way they will have to reprint the box art for Mushi-Shi S1 so only old copies say "complete collection".

But there is a decisive difference between the two. As far as I know, Mushishi sold somewhere around 16k in Japan, which is obviously great. Spice and Wolf's second season however, sold less than 3k from what I've read.

That being said, Mushishi's lack of a second season was strange to begin with, while Spice and Wolf just wasn't profitable enough to assure another season, far from it actually. That it's been five years now since season 2 and the novels having concluded a few years ago doesn't really help, either.

So better not get your hopes up.

Nope, that's not really anything to go by. Especially as most licensing companies probably have as much information as we, the fans, do. Thus any extra labelling doesn't hold much meaning, either. You'd better not get your hopes up due to things like this ;).

This show would need at least 2 more seasons to cover the LN's, and that's if they skip a couple volumes and pick up the pace. I wouldn't want another season if they plan on ending the show in season 3 because it would be way to rushed to be good. I mean hell, even 2 more seasons wouldn't be enough considering the first 2 seasons only covered 1/3 of the LN.

I wouldn't mind a season 3 though if they didn't plan to wrap up the series in it, even if they never got around to a season 4, I would be happy just having more Horo and Lawrence.

Well... shit.

I've been hearing excellent things about this show for years, so a month or so ago I watched the first couple episodes, loved it, and bought it.

Unfortunately for me, I had no idea it didn't end properly. To be honest, I always try to steer clear of shows that haven't ended because, as everyone here can attest, it sucks! With all of the outstanding praise I'd heard about this show, it didn't once cross my mind that it wouldn't have a proper ending, so I was definitely caught off guard...

Well, I guess it's off to get the books then. Considering how long its been, I also doubt we'd get a third season of the show, but at least the books ensure we aren't COMPLETELY left out in the cold, right?

Sure, the novels end on a decent note in volume 16 for the main story, and then the author wrote another volume 17 with some side stories and an epilogue. But the official translations aren't done yet, so you'll have to wait while they're released :)

It doesn't matter that the story isn't complete. The 'ending' was perfect and felt like an ending, not a cliffhanger.
