Just announced: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/dark-souls-for-pc-announced-masochism-begins-august-24/ Dark Souls is coming to PC on August 24th and will feature new bosses. I hope there's a patch for the PS3 and 360 versions to get the new stuff, but I doubt it :[ |

Dark Souls coming to PC is awesome news. Hopefully they figure out a good control scheme for the mouse and keyboard, although I guess I wouldn't mind to much if I had to use a controller for this gem. To bad it seems like it will use Games for Windows Live as a DRM. A petition has already been started to voice this concern. If you would prefer Steamworks over GfWL you should consider signing it. Also on a side not a game not being available in your country is in my opinion the only valid reason to illegally download a game. |

Ugh who are they getting to do the port? the Japanese are horrendous at porting shit to the PC, I'm sorta glad it's coming but it's probably gonna play and run like trash. hopefully if this goes well, maybe we can get Armored Core 5 for PC too? |

As happy as I am about this I can only imagine choosing GFWL is going to make them lose considerable profit. I'll get it even if it's released for GFWL... but if it does poorly they'll probably reach the conclusion that PC isn't for them and that they're better off sticking to consoles in which case we'll probably never see another port from From Soft again even though all that was needed was to release it for Steam instead. Thankfully a petition is what got them doing this in the first place and the petition against GFWL seems to be doing well so we might be able to get it off of there. |

Oh and before I get back to it, I just started and I was wondering, was there a way to open the gate that the pansy prince was hiding behind in the second part of the Boletarian palace, under the bridge? Running across with that bloody dragon on my heels every time gets old pretty quick. I should probably have looked harder around for it when I went back to talk to him. |

GFWL with it was shit, wasn't really expecting that. Anyway, i really hope this does well enough that namco/from software realizes there's a rather big market for PC games. The only problem with this announcement IMO being GFWL, there's a pretty big "fuck GFWL" on pc. Alot of people have problems with it, microsoft doesn't even support it that much and just the fact the drm gfwl has on their games. This may backfire and reinforce devs/publishers that piracy is too much of a problem to release on PC, when it's really, the problem that PC gamers will bitch, complain, boycott, and pirate shit drm games and shit ports. Ill probably get it if i have the money when it does come out, but i may also wait for a sale. All in all i hope it isn't a terrible port even if it's with GFWL. Otherwise this just may fuck up the future games of the series and them not wanting to bring it to PC. |

I'm pretty sure they already said that it will come out as DLC for consoles at around $10 for all of the extra content. They also said that the PC version wont be full price (so probably anywhere from $20 to $40). There were rumors that they also fixed the FPS problems and the 30 FPS cap but... those are still just rumors I think and probably aren't true unfortunately. Which is probably why they're giving out the game at a reduced price. |

Let's not forget that they did NOT plan to release Dark Souls on pc. They did it purely because community ASKED for it and they were upfront that they lack experience with the platform but are willing to go into pc market deeper if they see that there's a , you know, market for it. If Dark Souls sells great, we will get more Souls games on PC, possibly with better porting quality. If it does not, we won't ever see masterpieces like Dark Souls on pc ever again. A lot of japanese companies are treading the waters of PC market now - you have dark souls coming to pc, you have DmC coming to pc, you have Castlevania Lords of Shadow II(and possibly the first part) being announced to be released on pc at almost the same time as console versions... Gamer Elitism(gods I hate this term but in this situation it fits) could as well kill any chances of Dark Soul sequels or other good console games that deserve to get to pc, getting to pc, which is a very bad thing. The game is playable and PC community will most likely fix whatever problems there are(and already we have a resolution-fix released by a modder) The important thing is to support a developer who spent a decade and more without touching a PC market and not only ported a game to pc(WITH additional content) purely BECAUSE FANBASE ASKED FOR IT, but also is willing to actually consider investing into PC market from now on if its worth it economically. |

Now I noticed that plenty of this game's fans, who played it on the consoles, feel that it their duty to defend the pc version...why!? no one is attacking the consoles version of this game. I tried the pc version a few days ago and it's awful, a guy released a fix only hours after the release of this game and this fix greatly improves the way this game looks and works, that basically tells us how much work was put in to this port. That this game's producers had no experience with pc games is no excuse for releasing such a game. Also, another attitude I dislike, is that gamers should be thankful that this was released also on the pc after the community asked for it...well, this game costs 40$, I am not getting anything for free. Actually, even if this game was free I would not play it, the pc version is that bad. Also, before defending this pc version of the game, how about playing it for a few hours, without the fix ofc. |

Even though I told myself I shouldn't, I went ahead and got it. Completed the first playthrough in about 16 hours (according to steam), of course that involved a bit of idle time where I left the game open to go do other things. The graphics were pretty damn terrible until the res. patch was released. And sure it was fairly difficult at times, but really that is all the game has going for it. The story was just flat out awful. Idk, I can't really recommend it to anyone that is looking for an adventure. But if you want something hard with little to no reward at the end, then go for it. |

I'm 20 hours into the game and I gotta say, this is definitely one of the best roleplaying game/dungeon crawler out there, especially gameplay wise. The combat in this puts most rpgs to shame, it's both fun and hard. I'm having so much fun with the battles in this game. The graphical design is brilliant as well. The story is pretty much non-existent but it doesn't bother me at all. Really impressed so far with this and I hope it keeps that way. Props to Namco for not ignoring the PC platform or I wouldn't have gotten the chance to play this. |

@Givemeyosandwich: Gamer elitism... *sigh* No, not really. Dark Souls PC edition is a bad port. That's the bottom line. If a fan managed to release a must have fix only hours after this game was put on sale, we can only wonder how much better this game could have been if the developers were not this lazy and actually worked on optimizing this game for the pc. Just because you and others say this game is a naked port that only happened because of fans wanting it to be on PC does not mean one should just ignore its obvious problems. Considering you want my money, you should at least work for it and just like they admitted, they did not work on this pc version but since there was demand they decided to make some profit without actually spending money on optimizing it for the pc, and as we know, this version will be released on the consoles too. Also, a lot of great games are not released also on the PC because of previous bad experiences companies had on the PC, such as the producers were too lazy when it came to PC optimization, they released bad ports and then they wonder what went wrong and why they did not sell more. |
