Oh and I wouldn't say anything after the first episode.

I've been a fan since the first series, and I've also read the manga of the first series and the second one. All I can say is that you will surely love the witty adventures of the middle schoolers in the training camp. :D

Never thought the show was that great as for me they go over the top on tennis techniques, but it is still a good show overall, decent sport action and comedy, and I liked the first season and the new season is off on a good start.

I'm actually interested in starting this series but I was wondering, do we need to watch the previous season in order to understand this current season? Or is it okay to just start watching it from here? :D

I'm gonna start this new one without even seeing the whole old one and see how it goes and if I'm not completely clueless as to what they're talking about haha XDD

I don't think you have to watch all 178 episodes. Truthfully, the anime stops following the manga around episode 125 or something; right after Seigaku match with Rikkai. If my memory severes me right, you really don't have to watch anything being that and just skip straight to the ovas (or just skip the 1st season and go straight to the ovas )

Personally, I think this is the much easier way to get through the 1st season so you can watch this season

I dont think you need to watch the first anime, I didnt and understood all that was happening in this one. Its not like the highschoolers are returning characters.

I liked the first anime better than this one, to be honest.

LightAndDark is right about the highschoolers not being returning characters, but you might not understand everything between the middle schoolers without watching the first anime or at least certain episodes.

Like kaykenner54 said, skip the first season - then watch the rest of it skipping any "Tenipuri family" and the special episodes since they're all fillers. After that, go to the OVAs.

I think the fillers are obvious.
