I was just wondering whether or not that you guys wait a certain length of time before you drop an ongoing manga that hasn't had any chapters released in a long time.
I know that the scanalators could be caught up to the actual manga, but what if no one is scanning it anymore?

so, how long will you wait to drop a manga?

If I really like the manga I'd wait as long as I would have to.
If I don't really care about it I'd wait about 2 months before dropping it.

I usually put such manga on-hold. If no chapters are released, it still remains on-hold.

haha i'm usually pretty attached to my manga :)
so if it stops getting put on the manga sites for a while, it just stays in my currently reading list

i usually check and see if there are at least 10 or so chapters out if it's a few years old. so if there's a manga that sounds really good from 2006 and it has 4 chapters out..i won't read it out of fear of liking it and then not being able to read it lol :D

I generally throw stuff like that on hold. I don't think I've ever dropped anything for that reason actually.

If I like it enough I'll hunt for raws, otherwise, indefinitely on hold

I don't "drop it" per se, I just put in on the "on hold" list. I like to hold onto a tiny shred of hope by not officially dropping it, just on holding it in case it ever comes back up.

I've never dropped a series I liked because the scanlations have stalled. To this day, I'm still awaiting the end to Toshiue no Hito, almost seven years later...

My god. I will never know what happens to the tan girl. Nor what happens to the cosplayer. (well it's obvious but who knows? I don't.)

Hasn't it only been 2 years? (That's still a lot)

hmm interesting responses
as I'm catching up on my manga now, I've decided to move all of the ones that haven't updated in a year to my on-hold list
and like you, Toshiue no Hito.. still waiting :P

It's the same for me as what most other people have said, I'll put it on hold and leave it there. This is also the reason why my on hold list is so long =/

In only drop a series if I don't like it.
If there is no understandable version to read, I just put in on on-hold.

This. Usually I'll get involved in other manga/anime, forget about it, and then when I come back there are more chapters released.

I don't usually have this problem as I tend to only start reading finished series, but I tend to just put them on indefinite hold until some new chapters appear. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Nana and Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden.

I drop it as soon as I loose interest. But if I only have a few more chapters left until the end, I finish it.

I've dropped a few manga here and there just because it didn't interest me anymore.

I don't like dropping manga. For me, it's more like putting it On-Hold, but for some reason, I've yet to fix that on my list. ^_^V

Usually, I'll judge something in the 1st chapter. If I hate it, I won't continue, but I will if I do like it or want to give it a chance. However, once I've read further, whether or not I decide I like it later on, I have to keep reading.

My OCD has an early "point of no return" line.

instinct o.o or women's intuition in my case. sometimes you can tell if a manga is going to be slow or if it has potential to pick itself up. either way it's usually not a problem if a manga that interested you in the beginning no longer does. just put it on hold and go chase another manga using your instincts =]
