Since a post from another forum got me interested, I would like to see how you guys answer this. How will a live-action Gundam movie be possible? Would it be made in Japan or America? Would it be an adaptation, new story set in a existing timeline, or an entirely new story and timeline all together?

(Edit: Yes, I know about G-Saviour and the live action stuff for that one PS1 game. Let's just use that movie as a what not to do for a live-action Gundam movie and leave it at that.)

There actually is a Canadian one, G-Saviour. It sucks.

I meant a good live-action movie, not a SyFy movie wannabe. Something that was not made with a $20 budget or a plot that sucked and did not fit right with the UC timeline.

If we're talking Star Trek or Avatar quality here, it'd have to be made in the US, especially if English-speaking people wanted to enjoy it. Unfortunately, I don't think that the Japanese fans would appreciate that. The only problems that I see are the language/subtitle/dub barrier and the special effects barrier, since Japanese special effects are generally not as well done as American special effects.

True, but Avatar from what I heard did very well in Japan.

And hopefully with G-Saviour that Sunrise would keep a closer eye on any future adaptations.

But where it may be in production would be the issue. If it is made in the US, it may have a story that it may not appeal to everyone, especially Gundam fans. If it is made in Japan, the production may not be spectacular.

Avatar was quite popular in Japan, indeed.

At any rate, it's quite a catch-22, isn't it? There'd have to be a really good team put together from the US and Japan in order to make this a well-done movie. We're talking special effects and production gurus from the US and storyboarders and Gundam story canon specialists from Japan banding together to make a live action film that both Westerners and Japanese fans can both really enjoy.

To have the quality be top notch, this would be one of (if not the) most expensive movie ever made.

Oh, without a doubt. And I don't want any of that crappy 00 Bruce Lee movement speed in there, either. That just ruins the believability of a 10-story tall mecha for everyone, as far as I'm concerned.

Okay, we may be wrong about Japan having special effects and productions that were not as good as the US. Watch a few clips of the live-action Space Battleship Yamato movie...
