We all love Studio Ghibili but not everything it brings out is pure gold (well most of it is anyway
so what's your least favourite film that has been made from studio Ghibili?

do we even need to mention that?
Tales of (ugh)sea is probably one of the worst overall movies I've seen in my life

Pom Poko, hands down.
And not because of the huge tanuki balls, it just felt like it would never end.

Mutta is the ultimate moé.

I guess I'm part of the minority that liked Pom Poko. :/ It's one of my favorite ghibli movies, but I can see how it can be disturbing and confusing to people who haven't studied japanese folklore that much.
Anway, I haven't seen them all yet,but out of the ones I have seen, I have to say that Whispers of the Heart was the one I liked least probably becuase I'm really into fantasy, magic, folklore, and supernatural stuff, and that's one of the few Studio Ghibli movies that doesn't have any of those. I haven't seen Yamadas, Only Yesterday, or Grave of Fireflies but I know those are the other more realistic non-fantasy ghibli movies,so I don't plan on seeing those, but I'm trying to see all of their other movies besides those.

I believe Porco Rosso is my least favourite. When I first saw the film, I didn't get into the film and stopped like one third into the film. I would like to see the entire film one day, but my plan to watch list is quite full right now...

The Cat Returns is one of my least favorite Ghibli movies. I don't know why; I just never really got into it. I felt it was too simplistic for its own good. It also lacked depth and wasn't very clear on its message. I think it would have been much better if Miyazaki was directing it.

Tales from Earthsea is another lesser effort; Goro Miyazaki does show his strength as a director in many places, but his handling of Ursula K. LeGuin's story feels more like taking elements from the books and cramming them into a film that needed more depth. It's not a bad movie, but it's certainly not great.

Also, as much as I hate to say it, Ponyo is another least favorite Ghibli for me. The film is at its best in the first half, but right after the tsunami scene I lost interest, and I found the denouement very disappointing. Furthermore, the scene where Sosuke worries about his mother doesn't have the same emotional impact as, say, Satsuki and Mei about their own mother.

I haven't seen Only Yesterday or Ocean Waves.

I thought the tales of earth was boring and didn't entertain me like the others.

Spirited Away is a masterpiece !!

Hmmm... it's gottta be Earthsea. Poor Mrs LeGuin having her book ruined again.

The flow was really awful, scenes that are supposed to evoke some emotions from the audience simply didn't do it, and I feel like it was recycling some old, popular stuff but in such an unfitting way that it didn't click. That's it I guess.

You are correct. Look up Takahata's "Horus: Prince of the Sun" and Miyazaki's "Shuna No Tabi" and spot the similarities.

Certainly Tales from Earthsea...It's not too bad but it really missed something what would made it more deep and thrilling. And in my opinion story was pretty confusing at times.

The Cat Returns...... I have given so much credit to Miyazaki and his studio for not marketing products, products and more products. They are not trying to cash in too much and I respect that. While there is Cat Returns, which was a side story to my second favourite Ghibli movie "Whisper of the Heart". It felt so much like a cash in. It was more boring than the rest and I really didn't like the animation either (granded, it's still good).

I actually quite enjoyed Tales from Earthsea but that may be because I haven't read the source material.

Pom Poko is my least favourite much for the same reason as Saskia. I didn't mind the Tanuki balls and I liked the environmental element, but I just felt like the movie dragged on overall.

Tales From Earthsea is actually my favorite Studio Ghibli film. It's so sad almost everyone dislikes it.

Honestly the only 2 I haven't seen appear to be disliked the most, Tales of earthsea and Pom Poko. I'm going to have to say Ponyo, it just seems like the one most aimed towards children.
