| surely there are enough quotes that are SFW and not by controversial characters in the first place... Sometimes that's difficult to work around though -- I can see how somebody might object to all Bleach and Naruto quotes for example, while some would constantly want them added. I think you should just make your own judgement calls, packet.... no need to overcomplicate it. |

| Yep, I did, I also checked the number of the actual chibi and it's definitly banned. My counter: The displayed chibi, #193, is banned, as you'll see in the url And it's like this since the new chibis were added. I don't know if this could be a reason...? |

| Everybody submitting quotes and chibis please be patient. I'm currently busy with other stuff. (I'm obsessed with bitcoin) TheResitance & radioguy: thanks for reporting. I'm not sure what's the problem but it's definitely a bug. Going to take a look at. I think maybe the GET parameters are getting too long and that is causing the bug. Maybe it's time to come up with a different approach. I personally hate having to register on different websites. How do you feel about it? If you wouldn't mind then that would be an option - to set banned chibis and so on in your profile. Anyway, from the URLs you posted I can finally see that selecting all the chibis to ban one by one is a pain. So I definitely will add an option to specifically select which chibis to show. I guess I could add an option to block quotes by anime. But it would be boring work. So I won't do it any time soon if ever. To be honest the whole banning thing makes things complicated and I don't like it. I'd much rather add something cool. | Going back to the first page, I realised, I gave the idea for chibis :D I think 1 background per season is good enough. Perhaps think of fun stuff for well known holidays? I especially liked the April fool's mudkipz joke lol. Also for quotes, if you sent me the list I could separate them into categories as All, SFW and funny quotes. And depending on how many people are underground hipsters who dislike Naruto and other similar stuff, I could even separate as no Naruto quotes. You've gone a long way from the original tracker and I have to say it's improved alot. Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this :) |

Try googling "png transparent background howto" or so. |
| Hey, I just noticed when i was banning some chibis that if you ban a certain amount it will start using chibis you have banned. Even when I have a lot of chibis allowed. Is there any way you can fix this? |

| Since I'm really grateful to Packet for making this. If any user has a Chibi they want used and it has a white/black (or any other solid colored) background on it then they can give it to me and I'll render it out for them. I'll also do this if it has an actual background to it (like actual scenery) if they want but it might take a bit longer. I have a good amount of photoshop experience so this should be easier for me than you. Thanks again for this. |

Anyway, I have a question...I really like the chibi right now (ha! it's Senjougahara) and I'm planning to watch some anime this week-end while the status bar is almost reaching its end. Any ways to preserve the chibi, without the need of banning all of them? At least for another 12 hours? :D |

| New Feature - force chibis So, I've added an option to only allow specific chibis you select. If you do this you won't get any new chibis when they are added. You will need to update your URL first. You can use it by putting &allow=1_2_3_4_5 and so on in your tracker URL. Turns out that it's harder to add this option to the URL generator than to the tracker itself. I hate JavaScript! Anyway, for the time being you can generate an URL by bannig the chibis you want allow and then replacing ban with allow in the URL. Please report any weird behavior. koleare: You can use this new feature. First find the number of the chibi you currently have in the URL generator and then select it with allow. MrAddict: This is a bug and I don't know why it happens. Something is broken. Sorry, dunno when I'll feel like hunting it down. |

| glad to hear that :) I think I found out why there is a problem when people ban a lot of chibis. It's because they ban a lot of chibis! When the &ban=... string gets too long the webserver throws it away :( So if you ban too many chibis it's like if you didn't ban any. WAT DO? Can't you guys just ban less chibis? It's obvious the URL is just getting too long and the server isn't handling it. One solution would be to generate a hash instead of the chibis. You'd get something like &ban=2YgYW5cm5hbCBwbGVhc3VyZS4 But as usual I'm too lazy to implement that. So for the time being just use the allow feature. |

| nateleroux: good idea if my math is correct packing the chibis the way you suggested would make the ban string 170 characters long for roughly a thousand chibis. At the moment, a 170 character string can ban about 60 chibis. so what you are proposing is about 15 times more efficient. that means 15x more chibis could be banned nice! I'll use it when I get to it. koleare: I meant to ask how long the URL generator takes to load, not the tracker image nateleroux's improvement won't affect the loading speed though |

You could use something like a thumbnail system, so when you are hovering over thumbed chibi or click it, I don't know, something like this would happen, but I think it would complicate your site and then, banning or white-listing them would be more difficult. I really like your current system though. Also, I have a feeling there may be trolls banning chibis. The ban numbers are 3 3 3 4 4 4 bla bla... |
| no problem then if it loads quickly It's not trolls. When someone uses allow=123 they automatically ban all other chibis than 123. So that's why the numbers are the same. Also, you probably noticed, when white listing is selected the chibis are ordered from the least to the most banned. btw, koleare: I noticed you use ban and allow at the same time. It's the same as only using allow. The ban option is ignored. |
| @packet: I actually started writing a php equivalent to pack them but then got a bit lazy. You really don't need all the extra padded space when you pack them, since you only need to encode the listed ones and you can even compress that data using whatever you wish. So, say you use a byte sequence to flag all the chibis, you can encode the first two chibis with just 11 without all the added zeros. If there are 60 chibis and you're only banning the last one you'll get 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 which is a lot of wasted space as well. It's better to just take that byte string and run it through gzcompress() or something. A hash works too but risk of conflict still exists. What language are you using here anyway? |

| saka: right, there are all kinds of optimizations possible indeed, I can skip the trailing zeroes, it's better than nothing but it's no good if I need to pack 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 Run-length encoding comes to mind but then someone is going to ban 101010101010101010101010101 and that's no good either. gzip is another option but won't help with high entropy sequences like: 11010011000010011001101011 in that case the result will be longer than the source because of the header so I dunno the server side is written in PHP, the client will be in javascript |

| Wow, how cute. I think the "level" idea someone posted was a good idea. And instead of having a bunch of different chibis..you could get a good artist to create a mascot -tan for MAL and have her on all the bars, different levels would change her expression and such. | the expression instead of chibis would be interesting , but all the trackers would be pretty similar then... with the chibis everyone has nice and mostly unique tracker due to the random quotes and chibis cycling, which i think is far nicer than a nunch of identical ones... |

| xRay-chanx: looking forward to them :) gregory003 volunteered for some chibi maintenance so perhaps he'll add them just post them here -Kazu: it would indeed be awesome if the chibi changed expressions as you watch anime a long time ago there was some brainstorming going on about it (somewhere around page 3?) but I agree with Neverarine that it would boring for everyone to have the same chibi what I kind of wish for would be that each user would get a unique chibi assigned and that chibi would change expressions, but that's not feasible :D yeah, it would be pretty cool if someone made a themed chibi set just for the tracker I'm no artist though so somebody would have to donate them :D anyway, I won't be adding any big new features any time soon; I'm working on something else right now, hope to share it in the "Creative Corner" when it's done. |
