it's not really something u can bring up in a conversation unless the person ur talking likes anime themselves. I tend to let others figure it out |

I wouldn't go "yo i watch anime!" when in the middle of a conversation or when talking with someone. You only tell them if they ask you it or that they watch anime themselves. |

Never had anyone dismiss or criticize me for liking / watching anime. I don't see why they would? Although, one of my pals asked me why I watch it when it's shit, I just told him to shut the fuck up as he watches Jeremy Kyle on a daily basis. Conversation over. |

What I mean by that is that most people still view it as Asian cartoons or something that only kids should watch/enjoy. It's the same with gaming or comics but I think those have gotten a better rep with how big they've gotten over the years (especially comics with the comic movies in the last decade). Personally, I don't bring it up with someone I just met (for the reason I listed above) unless they bring it up first. I enjoy anime but I understand that it's not really for everyone, especially people whose only experience with anime is stuff like Pokemon or Naruto. |

Yeah, I don't usually bring it up unless I'm asked. If somebody asks me what I'm upto & I happen to be watching Anime I just tell them, don't see the point in hiding it. I agree that it's not everyone's cup of tea, I wouldn't force anime on somebody or try & get them to watch it. If they happen to like it then cool, we simply have something in common. |

Nope. I'm a closet anime watcher. I'm half Japanese so i grew up watching anime that my mother got for me, which hooked me for life. But for some reason, I don't really like talking to my friends about my anime habit, I'd rather keep it to myself. |

Well, I've had someone ask one of my family members before. They thought it was bad... Like, definitely something little kids shouldn't watch. If I was there when they asked my family member, I would have definitely mentioned Pokemon. I'm assuming they had probably at least heard of it. They basically took the ecchi genre of anime, and assumed that every single anime out there is like that. Sometimes I wish I could punch the person in the face, and then show them what real anime is. To answer the question, no. The people at the school I used to attend seemed to look down on anime, the reason I never found out. If someone asked me, I would tell them yes, I do watch anime. However, I probably wouldn't come out and talk about it unless I'd never see them again and would have nothing to worry about, or I thought they liked anime too. (For example, if they were wearing an anime shirt or something.) |

I tell my close friends and family, but I don't tell random people I don't know because they'll probably think it's weird -_- Even my sister thinks I'm weird for watching it, she even jokes about it <_> But you know what? I couldn't care less, I love anime and nothings going to change that XD |

Anime with Ecchi shouldn't really be looked down upon, I absolutely loved the TV Series 'Spartacus', that show had intense violence, an incredible amount of nudity and sex scenes yet it wasn't looked down upon, in fact it had good reviews. For some reason, the people who don't know much about anime tend to think that any adult material found in anime is wrong. However these people will continue to watch TV series about drugs (Breaking Bad), Homicidal Sociopaths (Dexter) and so on without batting an eyelid. I wouldn't say anime without ecchi is 'real anime', that doesn't make sense. |

Generally no - during my (only one at the moment) college life, whenever hobbies come up, I usually pass off anime as TV (which isn't strictly lying, it's just I use the internetz to watch it) - my 2 best mates know (one of which properly got me into anime in the first place) and 2, used to be 3 till he dropped it, people in my law know, all though one is so into sport, flirting and his own arse he probably doesn't remember, leaving the last person to know being Sandra... Which is quite good, seeming as I prefer girls over lads anyway, obnoxious dicks that we, the male species, can be :P |

If someone asked, sure. I play video games too. I grew up with both and they still play roles in my life, so I won't deny it :D I'm personally not into history-related tv shows like Rome, Vikings, etc. Some people are fanatics. Everyone has their own tastes. |

Sounds like I'm like most people, if someone asks then I usually say yes. Though if I haven't know them very long/don't know what kind of person they are like, I usually just say a sort of "Oh sometimes, why do you?". But again, no point in stretching your neck out to announce it. |

I told the whole class that the finals presentation that I presented last Wednesday that my 1st choice was to do it on MAL and told the whole class I love anime and cute things even though I don't look like a person who likes kawaii and moe. They all just look at me hella funny but I shrugged it off. (Unfortunately the mods shut my survey down and I had to present on my Dad's engineering company) I felt I would have gotten an A+ if I did it on MAL but I still did hella good on my presentation. I will write an EC paper on MAL tho cuz I can easily tie it in with diversity and diversity in the workplace. |
