Would people have enjoyed it more or less?

The win against them felt a bit too easy for me, a bit disappointed ngl. Part of me would've wanted the opposing band to take it seriously and have their own ideals and passions too, for me it would've made things a lot more compelling and interesting. Like there would be higher stakes to it.

It could have been more compelling but with a lack of screen time it probably was better to subvert expectations with a different take than to take the longer route with a predictable outcome.

TL;DR: Bacchus is shallow and fourth-rate for symbolic reasons.

I think having Bacchus act the way they were makes sense for the arc, at least when looking at Lilisa.

The idea that the immediate world around Lilisa views rock as unnecessary and unbecoming of someone in her position is a running theme throughout the show, but it’s further emphasized around this time, like with the conversation with the former Noble Maiden. These situations challenge Lilisa’s love and passion for rock, and Bacchus contributes to this in a different way.

The band is fully antithetical to Lilisa’s ideals. They have adoring fans who support everything they do, and they formed their band off a whim after watching anime. From the perspective of Lilisa, who formed her band as a passionate act of rebellion against her new, oppressive life, Bacchus stands against everything she lives for.

Compared to our protagonists, Bacchus is shallow, and so that is reflected in their personalities. That’s why they’re dicks, and that’s why the win against them is more of a symbolic achievement than a musical one. Rock Lady was always the better band, but they needed to overcome that by convincing their fans, which symbolizes what I mentioned earlier with how Lilisa’s immediate environment views her passion for rock.

What do you expect of frivolous people starting a band out of a whim after watching musical anime for the first time and chasing for clout instead of passion? Removing it and you have four bricks and a microphone.

I mean we need different kind of bands to compete against
sometimes they need to just be arrogant, sometimes the type you mentioned(which they will probably do next season as that is pretty common), sometimes something else
like in shounen sometimes the antagonist are pure evil, manipulative, calculated, weak so kind of like comic relief etc
