Does anybody know of an existing fansub of this show? Since I found out every sub I could find is just a rip of Cr*nchyroll's subs, and given the recent thing with the genAI, I'd prefer to watch a version with for sure properly-made subs.

Fansub are rare or dead. They are used either for unlicensed stuff or pin points in some re-edition of certain episode. Its not 2004 why would they bother doing a job someone is already doing. If you want proper sub take the raws and either do it yourself or pay someone to do it.

if you think your japanese is good enough to translate the show then why do you need subtitles

To be fair, it's not because you understand Japanese that you have to not enjoy having a direct textual translation in your preferred language.

On topic, i'm more concerned with the fact that the poster seems unsure of being able to translate the series, but still criticize the subs. Like, is it just because it's potentially AI (a non-issue), or is there translations problems (which would be annoying, but doing public fansubs may lead to legal pursuits in this case, anyway) ?

@sircandle because even if you can theoretically understand a sentence, you might not quite get it while hearing it at full speed, or you might not know every word, so it can be preferable to have subtitles

@Alexioos95 why wouldnt i criticise something for being bad? even if i could perhaps get by without, what about everyone else? its good to be considerate of others in this world.
also, about potential legal pursuits accrued from fansubbing, how old are you?

Why is it bad, tho ? You explained nothing, there.

Fansubbing itself it not much of a problem, until the license for the Anime, its subbing and distributing is protected by the Copyright law after being bought by a company such as Crunchyroll. Why do you think fan-subbers basically never go for these, even when the translations are said to be bad ? As for your question, 24yo; old enough to have witnessed many things online.

But well, if you really want to sub the series nonetheless, do it if you want to, no one did it yet, and probably never will. I just quoted the user above, and shared facts with him.

You do know that Crunchyroll contracts a wide variety of translators and companies to source their subs? Just because some translators are substandard and/or use AI to produce atrocious subs (eg Necronomicon) doesn’t mean there aren’t some highly talented translators under contract with them (eg Apocalypse Hotel). Yes, being an official sub isn’t necessarily a guarantee of quality, but most aren’t garbage either.

@ClaudG well yea, but once you know the well is poisoned youd prefer not to drink from it even if you might get lucky, are you? id love to know if theres direct credits for subbers for each anime, but i dont recall seeing any at least for mono

Just get the Japanese sub and one of the 3 thousand tools that allow you to hover over a word and see the definition, it ain't that hard buddy especially if you already know some jp.

Or get the sub, throw all of it into jpdb, learn the words and afterwards watch the series.

Yeah if you don’t know, modern official subs have all the same issues as dubs, they are less “translations” and more “localizations”, with American gen Z slang and even brainrot garbage thrown in whenever they get the opportunity. They massacre the original scripts

Tl;dr- official subs in 2025 are HORRIBLE

Yeah, i see it too in French, but it's generally present only for Shonen stories. It's annoying, but i can get over it.

I mean, you had a question, and it got answered in the first post: no, there is no fansub currently, and most probably, never will. Do you have another question, or need for advices on how to do the subs yourself ? If not, i don't see what you are expecting more, there; people are not obliged to agree with you.

@asbest0sdust I reckon you didn't bother looking at https://fansubdb.com/wiki/Spring_2025 , apparently there is a group "fansubbing" it, but I am pretty sure they are taking CR subs and editing/restyling them, which may as well be an improvement.

Here are their edits for E1 https://www.diffchecker.com/14fqyT2f/

@asbest0sdust So you are willing to implicitly trust all fansub groups, despite knowing that there are bad fansubbers out there, yet you are avoiding all official subs because of one or two incidents? Make it make sense.

@DarttheLegend Actually modern anime official subtitle translations are pretty good all things considered. Some people are just easily manipulated by youtubers and twitter personalities who like to farm hate clicks.

I speak Japanese and it is a very regular occurrence that the official subs do not match what is being spoken on screen. The most recent season Re:Zero has the worst official subs in recent memory. Also the attempt to translate honorifics instead of just leaving them as-is is weird and a little bit nationalistic. I’ve seen over 800 anime series and can easily say the fansub era was notably better than the official sub era we’re in now. You are very wrong and deflecting with whatever you’re saying about YouTubers (idk what that’s even about tbh I don’t watch anime content on YouTube)
