This is a direct sequel that adapts volumes 12 and 13 from the light novels. Please change the relations!

What would you mark it as? It’s kinda difficult with the limited descriptions for the database, since it takes place in the middle of season 4. Side story is probably the best option since there are 2 other volumes covered within season 4 that take place before this, so it can’t be a direct sequel to season 3. It can’t be a sequel to season 4 since it takes place before volume 14 within the season. It’s just weird placement overall

@MusashiKarlsefni Flashbacks can be direct sequels as long as they have a tangible impact on the main story, which this does. It's 2 entire volumes of canon content that no viewer can just skip over and be fine with it.

yeah it should get marked as a sequel, even if it's not technically a sequel cause you would definitely watch it before season 5

this is NOT a direct sequal. it takes place between episode 7 and 8 of season 4. after the Dwarfs, but before the Re-Estize stuff.

Still not a "parent story", should be marked at sequel.

So, is this a sequel or a side story? Do I have to watch it to get the hang of the story after the last season?

Side-story in relation to Season 4.

People are riled up because side-stories are generally regarded as unimportant supplementary parts. However, this Movie is adapting Canon and important pieces of the overall story, and should not be skipped. It can't be classified as a Prequel or Sequel tho, as it happen it between the content from the 4th Season (which adapted Volumes 10, 11 and 14, creating a gap in the middle).

Just to get the hang, no, but you'll most probably notice unexplained changes in the situation of the different kingdoms from the second half of Season 4 onward because of the content of the Movie having been separated from the series.

@Alexioos95 So, does this adapt the events of a volume that was skipped during the anime's final season adaptation?

@Alexioos95 So would it be worthwhile to skip to the movie mid-season 4 and then return? And if so, at which episode should that be done?

Yeah, like that a few dialogues makes more sense, and won't seems like a recap of something that wasn't shown. The Movie takes place between Episode 7 and 8.
