I think a theme with many of these films is getting lost in the art whether its visually or the poetic nature of the emotions being portrayed and romantic themes. They come across more of a feeling and understanding in a general way than expert story telling or character rich stories, if that makes sense.

CoMix is the definition of eye-candy for animation studios, every major project they’ve animated is pure bliss from the gods themselves. Makoto Shinkai however, is a mixed bag of writing.

Yeah that whole ordeal near the end along with the stairwell scene had a feeling like this:

"ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?"

Listen, it's a story and that's fine, but that bit was just so unbelievably confusing.

I don't think visually any of Shinkai's movies have reached the satisfaction this one gives. The 45 minute runtime helps elevating the animation I guess.

Same. It's basically an hour of aesthetic replenishment your eyes. Loved every minute of this. Most people didn't watch for the plot anyway
