This manga started 12 years ago. I don’t think we can call it ‘new’ anymore.

honestly all of them are fucking amazing( heels paradise is decent) so i would understand any of them as the best of the new gen

only because shounen is easily digestible and the gateway into anime for most. I've seen over 500 series in the past 20 years and all of those modern shounens were so bland and mediocre i had a hard time watching them. i ended up dropping jjk and chainsaw man because they were so unoriginal and adolescent. made in abyss on the other hand is not only one of the best animes I've seen in recent years but one of the best animes I've seen ever. its so unique and interesting and leaves me with such an intense burning desire to know more. it'll never be popular as those though as its content doesn't appeal to as wide of an audience. its also only available to stream on amazon or hidive which aren't as popular of streaming sites.

Was good in beginning great world building and had shock factor
However without its setting it’s just cheap gore and poor character design
The choice of including Rika as a character is this anime’s greatest weakness- yes, she’s annoying “but she’s a childdddd” - yes, I understand. But her character is so poorly built that it just doesn’t contribute anything except build the idea “Look at this child, I need to be brave like her!!!!” and in doing so it totally interrupts every other theme within the show
To be honest, I think Rika was written as a poor desperate excuse to progress the plot
And the attempt at building a plot in the third season is unnecessary and pitiful, overly drawn out and poorly placed. If a show like neon genesis evangelion had a story building rating of 10, MIA s3 especially would be a 3-2
And a small thing: such a large part of the setting was about grandiose and beauty, the choice of having an entire season take place confined to a familiar village in a tree and flashbacks opposed to small people in an unknown unfriendly abyss really made sure nothing about this season was an improvement
I think this anime was trying to be “different” - it did it good in the first season but once that wore off and they started trying to build a plot, this show became ‘just another anime’.
I think the author lacked purpose, it would’ve been an amazing show if it stuck to the exploring and built off the world design/setting, but the author shifted into plot building - weak and limiting, the show totally lost direction and fell off

Nah, I've seen what horrible stuff happens when a series become a "modern classic." Made in Abyss is fine as it is.

@TheCommonMan1 No matter what title you give it i’m also fine with its current spot. The animation studio is very dedicated to it and has consistently announced new seasons/projects ahead of time even if the manga has snail paced chapters releases

I can agree with you, the only problem is that it's a very long term manga. And because of that the chapters come out after several months, they are not constant publications, which makes people lose some tracking of the manga for months, but well, leaving that aside, I'm very much agree with you.
Made in Abyss is one of the best things out there. As you can see, it's one of my favorite series
