lol I posted about Kyu on the main page of the group before I saw this thread.
#1: Pat Benatar sings Invincible from the movie The Legend of Billie Jean(Which I've never seen, nor have I wanted to see it), for some reason, I love that song when I'm depressed.
#2: The movie "Ladyhawk" was released. Staring Matthew Broderick & Michelle Pfeiffer. It's suppose to be a bad movie, from what people have told me-but then again, people also told me the goonies was a bad movie and I loved it as a kid ^_-
I'd like to be able to see this movie at some point. even though I've been told non stop how bad it is.
Synopsis-Philipe Gastone, a thief, escapes from the dungeon at Aquila, sparking a manhunt. He is nearly captured when Captain Navarre befriends him. Navarre has been hunted by the Bishop's men for two years, ever since he escaped with the Lady Isabeau who the Bishop has lusted after.
Navarre and Isabeau have a curse that the Bishop has placed on them that causes Navarre to be a wolf during the night and Isabeau to be a hawk during the day. Navarre insists that Philipe help him re-enter the city to help him kill the heavily guarded Bishop.
#3: Kyu Sakamoto born Hisashi Oshima-who is ranked at number 18 in a list of Japan's top 100 influential musicians by HMV(Which is an international Entertainment retail chain). Died on August 12 1985, Kyu died in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123.
Before the doomed aircraft hit the ground, he managed to write a farewell note to his wife, Yukiko Kashiwagi.
Married in 1971, they had two daughters, Hanako and Maiko.
Kyu’s most popular song was “Ue o muite aruko“(“I look up when I walk“) in 1963 Also known in the us as “Sukiyaki” because the companies felt that it’s original name was to hard for Americans unaccustomed to the Japanese language, to say.
I was going to save this till the anniversary of the crash. But I’m sick often and I was afraid I’d forget, or be feeling to bad to come on at all on that day.
I learned of Kyu from my mother, some years ago, when I was getting into Japanese music, she mentioned the song she loved when she was younger, called “Sukiyaki”.
She was 39 when I was born, so she’s probably older than most of your mothers-I was exposed to a lot of useless info from the 50’s and 60’s and 70’s basically.
Like Music and other things. And this was one of the things I learned about. I figure it’s usless to mention it really, but since he was Japanese and at some point a top musical artist as well as having died in that crash... I’m posting about it. Hope that’s ok.
