Winter 2024 First Impressions Thread Happy New Year Everyone and Welcome to Winter 2024!!! Last season was stacked with a lot of good anime from 2023. This season will feature more sequels to popular series and more new/original series that have potential to be hidden gems of the season. Here's what anime I'm going to be watching for Winter 2024. Chained Soldier Mashle 2nd Season Solo Leveling High Card Season 2 Sengoku Youko Metallic Rouge The Witch and the Beast Urusei Yatsura (2022) 2nd Season Bucchigiri?! Meiji Gekken: 1874 If I had to describe Winter 2024, I would say it would be the season of Original anime. You have Bones doing Metallic Rouge while MAPPA is doing Bucchigiri?! There is also The Way of Pon(still don't know how to play Mahjong) and Meiji Gekken: 1874. The only highly anticipated series I see is Solo Leveling and possibly Chained Soldier . The lack of big titles can also allow last season favorites such as The Apothecary Diaries and Sousou no Frieren to remain on top this season. What anime will you be ringing in the new year with? Feel free to share you first impressions in this thread. |

Beryl and Sapphire S4 After the events of S3, this arc is a surprise! Looking forward to Beryl x Sapphire moments with Sapphire fumbling his way through potions as a chem major XD Ishura Ready for the abundance of characters whose names I'll struggle to remember as hyped hehe. Loving the soundtrack. Too bad the eyecatch wasn't fully translated, it looked like a cool lore bit. :P A Sign of Affection Aahh I love it! The balance between sound and silence is on-point, and we get a nice blend of talking out loud, writing/texting, and learning sign language. Sign of the week: "sure" ^^ Solo Leveling This episode was so fragmented, with the narrator interjecting for exposition, that it didn't feel like an actual story. The "three years ago" prologue was also a bit of an odd placement, especially when coupled with the info dumps. I was also hoping the first episode would end with the protagonist acquiring his new power or undergoing the Big Change, even if the episode needed to be longer for it. :/ Mr. Villain's Day Off This was hyped as a healing sort of anime and it didn't disappoint. Right away, the main character has a huggable energy without being a literal Baymax, and little kids both approach him easily and are terrified of him cuz of his *evil aura*. Him eating ice cream in a cold room cuz he's afraid it'd melt is precious—strawberry mochi and the promise of a baby panda saved the world ^^ Doctor Elise As a pre-med, I was instantly drawn by this anime's premise. The fragmented beginning was a bit off-putting, but when the main story started, immediate respect for Aoi's poise, surgical etiquette, and ability to get her colleague to calm down and focus. And she has personality outside being the "surgeon queen"—the sweet tooth bit was cute and quirky! I both liked and disliked the plane scene: props for presumably saving everyone she could, but oof for not triaging, including for herself. :P Metallic Rouge You know it gets real when that song plays during Rouge vs Viola ^^ Sengoku Youko I went into this anime with no background knowledge besides the synopsis and the poster showing an awesome-looking white-haired character who I thought was Tama—the main visual has since changed to a more basic one showing the main trio, and Tama, it turned out, just looked like a little kid. Also, I thought Jinka's VA was Kiku from Rakugo Shinjuu, but that also turned out to be wrong—though he voiced Miyano, Moriarty, and Tanaka from Odd Taxi. :O

For me not a season with bangers titles apart the continuing series like Frieren or Apothecary diaries. I'm looking forward to find surprises in this earlier part of the year. Winter 2024 Ranni watchlist Shows that i probably will like Hikari no Ou 2nd Season : finally the mysteries will be revealed and we are near the dawn of the war Dungeon Meshi : adventuring through dungeons, finding new recipes and a high potential for gags... could be stay among my favorites... Metallic Rouge :i don't know almost nothing but is Studio Bones stuff: animation will be awesome, sci-fi is one of my favorite setting. Sengoku Youko : it seems a long extraordinary journey with many battles, : it's a 3-Cour Anime that will fully adapt the manga Yubisaki to Renren :A Sign of Affection, it could easily trigger our emotions, it will be like A Silent Voice but in University continuing Kusuriya no Hitorigoto : they will start the second novel, really interested about the destiny of Maomao after the shocking end of the first cour. Sousou no Frieren : a solid arc is about to start Shangri-La Frontier : in these latter parts the show became more a MMORPG's adventure and i liked! Undead Unluck : in the last episode lost some of its shine, now is very shounen shows that i don't have high expectations COTE III Mashle 2nd Season High Card Season 2 Mato Seihei no Slave Solo Leveling

What to expect from the Winter 2024 season. Black: I recommend it and it will be a success. Purple: I recommend. Blue: It will be successful. Green: It has the possibility of being good or successful. Brown: It will be an average work. Red: Not worth it. Ore dake Level Up na Ken — Adaptation of the hugely popular manhwa, Solo Leveling. It is inconceivable that someone who frequently watches anime and reads manga has not yet heard of this work. Therefore, even for those who don't like the proposal and don't like the ending of the manga, it's a must-watch anime this season. Furthermore, although the trailer is not very exciting, the studio in charge is A-1 Pictures and the soundtrack is under the responsibility of the great Sawano. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e 3rd Season — The third season of Classroom of the Elite is produced by the same director and studio that have been in this franchise since the first season. Therefore, something very different from what has already been done is not expected, that is, many changes in relation to the manga and a technically average production. Furthermore, the previous seasons were successful due to the script containing some extraordinary episodes. Unfortunately, they contrast with several unpleasant episodes that occupy about half of the work. Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 2nd Season — The last episode of the first season is extremely exciting, epic, with frantic action and very well done. It's a shame that it's only the last episode, as the others are merely a plot with many convolutions. Furthermore, the director remains the same, but the anime has moved to a larger studio. In theory, a bigger studio could lead us to believe in a better production. However, when it comes to the imaging aspects, the previous studio's works are more appreciable. Furthermore, the trailer presents a simple anime, which corroborates the idea that the plot will remain still for most of the season. Although some people claim that this part of the manga is extremely busy. The best thing is to wait for the first reviews. If they say there's a lot of action and good quality, it's a good bet. Mashle 2nd Season — The premise didn't help promote the work, and the first season had a bad introduction. However, as time passes, the story becomes more and more interesting, and the jokes begin to develop efficiently. Given what has already been accomplished, one cannot expect a masterpiece from this sequel. However, if it continues with the same dynamics, the anime promises to be light, fun to watch and the most peaceful one to watch of the season. Mato Seihei no Slave — This work is arousing great expectations and is increasingly becoming popular, especially because it promises a lot of action, it is from the same creator of Akame ga Kill and the character designs are excellent. These designs are similar to other popular characters in anime. Despite expectations regarding the designs presented and the enormous production time, postponing the premiere for a year, based on the released trailers, the animation presents an average quality, at most a little above average. The fear is reinforced by the studio being small and without a history of large productions. At least the director is an experienced professional who has a long career in this industry. Furthermore, it is important to point out that the manga is not well reviewed and has a notoriously terrible premise. Given this, based on expectations, it should be an initial success, but will possibly disappoint many people. Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu Season 2 — The first season of this anime did not present the plot that was expected, but regardless of the imagined direction, it was a pleasant surprise, surpassing quite the average school novel. This is due to the fact that there are several great uniquenesses in this story and the characters. Proof of this is that it is well rated on MAL, and even with the wrong way in which it was sold, it has achieved significant popularity for its proposal. At first, it may seem like an obvious choice, given the much-deserved praise, but the high school romance is out of print for many. However, if you can take this as encouragement, the romance in this anime has progressed in the first season. Furthermore, based on the revelations that are being released, the romance in this second season should run a marathon at lightning speed. Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun — It took three years for the second season to come out, there was even fundraising through donations for the production. The fans' happiness in knowing that this day is coming is enormous. The adaptation is deserved, as it is an award-winning light novel, even winning the excellence award at the Shogakukan Light Novel Grand Prix. Furthermore, the light novel is excellently successful in terms of sales. The production of the anime only faced difficulties in being carried out, since, unfortunately, the first season was not as well evaluated, receiving an abundance of shallow and stupid Western criticism. This was largely due to the fact that it is a work aimed at intelligent people and with realistic messages, which clash with the ideals of political correctness. In other words, it was canceled by unwary people, who are closed-minded, intolerant and incapable of understanding a subtext. These are people who not only do not understand the complexity of the topic, but also maliciously distort the message of the work in their reviews. In short, pseudo-intellectuals, incapable of reasoning, of thinking with their own minds, kindly beings like that don't watch, this work is not for those who smell Narnia. Dungeon Meshi — The first impression was not the best, as the drawings are simple, not very detailed and generic, both in terms of characters and scenarios. Despite this, it may surprise, given that the studio responsible is Trigger, which has a history that deserves all respect in terms of image. As for the story, it has a pleasant synopsis, as it is a promising seinen drama. The plot can also be supported by the manga being very well rated. Therefore, it may not become very popular, but it should have a good story. Ao no Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati-hen — The trailer is actually interesting, with good music and beautiful images. However, this is the third season of an anime that has an unpleasant and oversaturated premise. It's surprising and disappointing that the first season is extremely popular, but it's more surprising that, to date, this third season is not popular. Yubisaki to Renren — It is a very characteristic shoujo anime with adult university characters, and has very well evaluated base material. The fact that the protagonist is a hearing-impaired person immediately brings to mind the extraordinary Koe no Katachi. Certainly, there will be many people who will praise this work. However, although there are many men who watched shoujo and enjoyed it, they are not the target audience for this type of work. Therefore, the fact that this anime presents elements strongly characteristic of shoujo may be an indication that there will not be attractions that are strong enough to attract an audience beyond its own niche. Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita 2nd — The second season of the anime with a hero who leaves the life of adventure to work as a salesman in an apothecary store. Definitely, placing everyday life in a fantasy as the central theme is conceptually contradictory. The idea is sold as having a certain originality, but it is difficult to buy this premise, and it gets worse when the first season was poorly evaluated. A good plot is a story without the boring parts, common things are not interesting, they do not justify attention. Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi — The anime will begin with a girl going down to a city to see tourist attractions, without knowing that it was a three-hour walk from her destination, being in winter with minus 8 degrees and wearing summer clothes. It looks like a cute, different anime with funny situations. The trailer also features good music, as well as good scenery and promising characters. The only caveat is that the manga is not as highly rated, but it seems that this is due to the fact that, over time, the plot changed focus, which should not happen in just one season of the anime. Majo to Yajuu — The main character designs have good artistic concepts. One of them looks enigmatic, carrying a big hat on her back, and the other is a beautiful woman, with slight wild features. The idea of a Van Helsing couple hunting a witch in a city seems quite promising. Promising for: being a little different from the usual anime; the main characters are not children; and focus on a single case that has a clear, strong and mysterious enemy. However, animes with monsters that are very familiar to those in classic tales, which may be the case with this one, tend not to be successful. Even more so, one that appears to be detectives. If it's any reassurance, the manga is a well-rated seinen, and the anime's director is very experienced. Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou sugite, Isekai no Yatsura ga Marude Aite ni Naranai n desu ga. — A class of Japanese students is teleported to a fantasy world, in which each student acquires a power. At first, everyone acquires powers, with the exception, apparently, of our somewhat stupid protagonist, but the truth is that he acquired the greatest power. This is a very typical introduction to generic isekais seasonal anime, and the drawings with light colors follow the same line. The difference that the anime proposes is the fact that the protagonist is so strong that all he has to do is not be asleep to kill anyone with his instant death power. Creating thought-provoking challenges to keep the audience interested in this journey with someone so strong is complicated. Furthermore, the studio is small, the manga is poorly rated and the anime is PG 13, meaning we won't even have good quality ecchi. If it were a three-episode anime, but an entire season with this proposal, it's hard to believe it would be able to sustain itself. Urusei Yatsura (2022) 2nd Season — The second season of a reboot of a hugely successful first version, which is huge and old, which was already an adaptation from a large, older manga. In the case of an excellent anime, a faithful remake is preferable to a reboot. However, when the work is too dated, even the great ones, there are some dynamics that are not suitable for modern times, making a reboot preferable. Furthermore, if you are going to do a reimagining, make it strong and not soft. Maintaining a more retro atmosphere would only be justified if the first anime had not been faithful to the manga, in order to create a faithful version dedicated to fans of the manga. A half-reboot or half-remake, which seems to be the proposal for this anime, ends up leaving an unpleasant feeling of strangeness. With all these reservations, there are some positive reviews of the first season, and it couldn't be any different, since the manga's author is the great Takahashi. Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari — The manga's synopsis presents a love story where a brave man travels to another world, aiming to steal his beloved from a wedding, sneaking a kiss on her princess of the kingdom. The synopsis of the anime reveals a cowardly protagonist who has difficulty declaring himself to a childhood friend. The information contained in the work's description suggests that it is not a romance, but rather a harem whore, with ecchi and seinen. The trailer reveals that in this fantasy Isekai the girls are half human and the protagonist will put the ring on the fingers of five princesses. Observations: the studio is tiny, the manga is poorly rated, the director only directed bad animes, and zoophilia is a disease. Metallic Rouge — Original futuristic science fiction anime, with half-mecha androids, from the Bones studio. The trailer has a pleasant aesthetic, compared to recent animes that have been released with similar proposals. In addition to being beautiful, it is extremely fluid and has an abundance of action scenes. The Bones studio, once again, looks like it will live up to the name it has built in this industry when it comes to the visual part. Given this, it's worth betting on this anime, even if just for the animation. Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata — Another isekai, in which a class of normal Japanese high school students are summoned to the other world and receive special powers. The difference is that the protagonist is the most average student in the class and the focus of the anime is on the protagonist's ability with healing magic. The problem is not being an isekai anime, but rather being a generic isekai with no content. For those who have watched so many similar films, it is difficult to find good motivations to watch something like this. However, as is customary, there will be some audience, and in the absence of something better, there is no way to blame anyone who considers it. Another relevant point is that the studios responsible are: Shin-Ei Animation in partnership with Studio Add, which has never produced anything. Sometimes a larger studio comes in with the name and the smaller one with the work. Finally, it should be noted that the manga is poorly evaluated. Shaman King: Flowers — A continuation of a reboot that had its first part evaluated so negatively, that it led to the anime having a rating of less than seven in the BAD. The first version receives more positive reviews, is much better known, but is still a childish and detestable anime. Gekai Elise — The premise idea has merits, as it brings something unusual and creates a good problem to be explored, but it is difficult to accept. A person dies, is reincarnated, becomes a doctor with modern medical knowledge, dies again, and returns to the body of the first life before the first death. There is no suspension of disbelief that makes this logic work. Furthermore, a proposal to accompany a doctor while being a doctor is not attractive. There will be other complications in this plot, but they may not be enough to offer an interesting plot. The manga, which is the best indicator at the moment for the story, has a less than favorable evaluation. Furthermore, it seems to be a niche anime for girls. Akuyaku Reijou Level 99: Watashi wa Ura-Boss desu ga Maou dewa Arimasen — The trailer is quite reasonable and the premise of being reincarnated in an otome game became quite common. Despite this, there are a number of interesting elements in this synopsis due to some nuances of this proposal in this anime. A beautiful woman, extremely strong, who doesn't care about romance, and just wants to live in peace, but is discriminated against because of the color of her hair and her strength. Anyway, it's just not possible to bet more on this anime, because the manga isn't as highly rated. High Card Season 2 — The first season of this anime premiered earlier this year, but has already fallen into the limbo of oblivion. Furthermore, this first season was discredited, with low popularity, with harsh reviews and negative ratings. It's hard to believe in continuity when the project started so badly. Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru — An angel and a demon go to study at a Japanese school and a romance begins between them. How much more stupid can certain premises be! The demon infiltrated the school with the aim of recruiting students to fight against the angels. My God! The anime is still classified as seinen. To be classified as such, perhaps there is some richness in the subtext. Good luck to those who confirm. It will take a lot of luck, since the studio is small and the manga is rated as average. Furthermore, the pointy ears of some characters are horrifying. Kingdom 5th Season — The trailer is interesting, but it's the fifth season and hardly anyone will start watching it. The Pierrot studio, which has been carrying out this project since the beginning, remains. It also remains the same director since the third season. Therefore, there shouldn't be any major surprises, that is, it will continue to be a well-rated anime aimed at a niche and increasingly niche audience. Ishura— The idea is simple: after the death of the demon king, a Battle Royale arises between extremely strong people. The trailer revealed the fundamental aspects for this type of proposal, which are a lot of action and a quality image. How successful this anime will be, we will only know when it starts to see how the combats will develop. Saijaku Tamer wa Gomi Hiroi no Tabi wo Hajimemashita. — The anime features a girl who scavenges trash in a forest to survive, as society discriminates and persecutes her. The premise is great, but the trailer shows that the direction didn't get the tone right, which should be dramatic and dark. Furthermore, the studio responsible for this anime is also quite small. Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha — Another son of Overlord, a fantasy anime in which the protagonist is transformed into an undead skeleton. If there was an anime among these children that was darker than its father, perhaps it would be able to enchant much more than the always lighter and more compact versions. It's okay to copy as long as it adds something new. So far, it is not possible to notice anything different from his brothers and father with the trailers and synopsis of this anime. Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san — The premise is of an alien super villain tasked with destroying humanity, but who decides to take a break on Earth, which is constantly interrupted by people trying to defeat him. The idea is promising and can be applied to other proposals, but it is obviously a comedy anime. Productions that focus exclusively on comedy or are very focused on this area tend to be less attractive than those that make sporadic use. It won't be a masterpiece, but it promises to be entertainment for those who want something relaxed and unpretentious. The quality of the show will depend greatly on the director's comedic flair. Isekai de Mofumofu Nadenade suru Tame ni Ganbattemasu. — After dying from working so hard, a young man is reincarnated in another world as a little girl. She is reborn with the ability to be loved by all animals, and will make friends with all animals. How cute! The target audience is little girls, but this premise is pretty stupid. Furthermore, reincarnation after dying from working so hard has already saturated more than that of the isekais truck. Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete — It is a magical girl anime that differs in that the protagonist dreams of being a magical girl, but gains the powers of a villain. There will be moments of action, but the main focus will be on creating comical situations with the irony of the protagonist's pretensions. The idea is promising, but it's not enough for this anime to be more than an average season. Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa, Moto Tekikoku de Jiyuu Kimama na Hanayome Seikatsu wo Mankitsu suru — Anime about the reincarnated young woman who is forced to marry the prince who killed her in another life. The problem is interesting, it has some dilemmas, but there are some mitigations that could compromise the potential. In her other life, the girl was a villain, the prince was the good guy, and now she just wants to have a long, peaceful life away from villainy. The anime would be more promising if, instead of a redemptive romance, it was a game of intrigue, revenge and the struggle for power. It will be a mid-season anime, focused on teenage female audiences. Bucchigiri?! — The anime is an original creation by the MAPPA studio, the same one that produced Jujutsu and Shingeki. It will be an anime about fights between teenagers, probably the Shounen of the current season. In this type of proposal, the well-produced action is one of the most relevant points and visually the trailer is quite attractive, both in terms of settings and characters. Therefore, it has the potential for success. Himesama "Goumon" no Jikan desu — An anime that shows a princess being tortured by a demon lord. It will be a silly comedy anime, which if very well evaluated, will be considered average. Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ouji — A Shoujo romance, with cute characters, magical drama and anthropomorphic demons. Sengoku Youko — The studio is good, the manga is well rated, the trailer is satisfactory and the plot is a shounen adventure with action. It's surprising that it's not currently very popular on MAL. However, it is undeniable that it has the potential for success. 30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Nareru Rashii — Romance Boys Love. Pon no Michi — Anime about friendship between girls, games and a leisure space. The proposal is not interesting, but there is the possibility of surprising, since it is an original anime from a prestigious studio. Sasaki to Pii-chan — Anime about a lonely middle-aged man, who adopted a pet bird, which gives him magical powers to travel between worlds. LOL... What drugs were they using when they came up with this idea? Without a doubt, Alexandre will give this anime a 10. LOL... Saikyou Tank no Meikyuu Kouryaku: Tairyoku 9999 no Rare Skill-mochi Tank, Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou sareru — In short, this is another anime about the hero of shield, a hero with an extremely powerful defense. The Japanese like this defensive premise a lot, perhaps it is a national identification. The synopsis and trailer present interesting elements, but hopes dissipate with the manga's evaluation. Hikari no Ou 2nd Season — The problem is that this is the second season of an anime, whose first season was quite poorly evaluated. Furthermore, the premise is problematic, although it's not all bad. At least the trailer looks nice. Synduality: Noir Part 2— Second season of an anime that had a very poorly rated first season. The 3D in the first season is ridiculously bad, insulting and the color palette isn't quite right. From the trailer for this second season, it is possible to notice an improvement in these aspects, but not as much as it should be and it is already too late. Meitou "Isekai no Yu" Kaitakuki: Around 40 Onsen Mania no Tensei Saki wa, Nonbiri Onsen Tengoku deshita — Two tiny studios producing an anime that is an adaptation of a completely unknown manga. The anime's story stars a man who enjoys spas and is reincarnated in another world. Furthermore, he promises to have an ecchi with half-human girls. It can be seen that the idea was to produce it based on a magical formula, taking the most generic anime elements and putting everything together in a blender. Chou Futsuu Ken Chiba Densetsu — Comedy anime with little girls. This is Alexandre's supreme achievement. Gekkan Mousou Kagaku — The story is about a team at a magazine that publishes articles about monsters and bizarre things. The theme, apparently, refers to Scooby Doo or Sherlock Holmes, but the colors and lights presented do not match this type of proposal. Furthermore, reports, detectives, anime like that are not having a good reception lately. It would have been more beneficial if they had moved towards terror. Yami Shibai 12 — The twelfth season of a four-minute-per-episode horror anime that almost no one knows about. Snack Basue — With so little fluidity, it's difficult to finish the trailer, let alone an episode of the anime. If it's any relief, the running time per episode has not yet been announced, but as it will be a comedy anime set in a bar, it will probably be one of a few minutes. Meiji Gekken: 1874 — The problem is that the studio is small and the material is original. However, the trailer is promising, the synopsis sells the work well, and it is a historical action anime. If the studio were big, it would have a good chance of being successful. Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern — The studio is new and wants to start with a mecha and military anime. Quite bold to take something that requires a lot of fluid and detailed animation. Furthermore, it is not possible to evaluate it properly, because the base material is original and no synopses of the anime are available. Furthermore, the trailer didn't show anything. Cardfight!! Vanguard: Divinez — Nth season of an unknown and always poorly rated anime. Harimaware! Koinu —Another one of those very childish comedy animes with some animals. Heart Cocktail Colorful: Fuyu-hen — Almost no information has been released about this anime, there is no synopsis, there is no trailer, there is no source material, there is no want the studio. The only relevant information is that it will be a short anime lasting five minutes per episode. My team:

Day 2 / Jan 3: Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun 2nd STAGE Tomozaki-kun is back with the social gamer vibe and interpersonal relationship! Hopefully he grows more to become the mediator of the class with the heroines and class minions, that's all I'm asking for. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e 3rd Season All I'm praying for at this point, is to see the LN conclusion of the 1st Year arc. Everything else since Season 2, was a massive disappointment that I don't actually care about much now. Ishura This show has me caught by total surprise. Apart from it being locked in Disney+ jail, it displayed a lot of potential just by mashing various things together, from Attack on Titan's titan-ish Golem to action prevalent of shows like Deca-Dence and Sabikui Bisco. This show will not get a lot of attention, but I hope it sure does, because it's one alluring premiere you WANT to watch more of. Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete POO-WEE it's Mahou Shoujo Ecchi goodness! This show is easily the MOST surprising for me, being partially uncensored (thanks Sentai / HIDIVE) for being a company of culture and it is good, SO GOOD. A girl wanting to be a Mahou Shoujo, but got blackmailed into evil with a sadistic side? That's unruly in the most batshit way possible, AND I WANT MORE OF IT!

Day 3 / Jan 4: Dungeon Meshi Studio Trigger's newest anime since the SSSS.Gridman franchise series, and man, it's great to see them back into anime once again. And Netflix knows the game to market and simulcast this, so they've been given more Ws now than Disney+ who also licenses anime BUT barely markets them. Mato Seihei no Slave One of the more anticipated shows coming out this season, coming from the author of Akame ga Kill!. And...it was pretty good. The CGI leaves more to be desired, but there is potential in the new series focusing on alter Esdeath and her ability to fanservice on the MC. I haven't read the manga, so it's full on uncensored degeneracy from here on out! Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou Sugite, Isekai no Yatsura ga Marude Aite ni Naranaindesu ga. Yup, this is as typical fantasy Isekai as it can go, being an Arifureta of sorts. But while that show is at least enjoyable in a sense, this show...it's pulling out all of the extreme stops for an Isekai with a One Punch Man-esque Saitama-like MC. Still on the fence about this, but it's just on the low space.

Chained Soldier For a show that has a very kinky premise, I really liked it. I was definitely feeling the Akame Ga Kill vibes when Yuuki transformed into a demon with Kyouka's Eternal Chains: Slave ability. It was really badass. That kissing scene was very erotic, if that's Kyouka's definition of a reward then sign me up to be her slave. However, the one thing that is holding this series back is the CGI of the demons which could have been polished a little bit more to make smoother against 2D backgrounds so that they don't stick out as an eyesore. I like the ED, so I'm looking forward to seeing the next episode. This anime has the potential to be a hit, hopefully it will get a second season.

Beryl and Sapphire S4
After the events of S3, this arc is a surprise! Looking forward to Beryl x Sapphire moments with Sapphire fumbling his way through potions as a chem major XD
Ishura
Ready for the abundance of characters whose names I'll struggle to remember as hyped hehe. Loving the soundtrack. Too bad the eyecatch wasn't fully translated, it looked like a cool lore bit. :P
A Sign of Affection
Aahh I love it! The balance between sound and silence is on-point, and we get a nice blend of talking out loud, writing/texting, and learning sign language. Sign of the week: "sure" ^^
Solo Leveling
This episode was so fragmented, with the narrator interjecting for exposition, that it didn't feel like an actual story. The "three years ago" prologue was also a bit of an odd placement, especially when coupled with the info dumps. I was also hoping the first episode would end with the protagonist acquiring his new power or undergoing the Big Change, even if the episode needed to be longer for it. :/
Mr. Villain's Day Off
This was hyped as a healing sort of anime and it didn't disappoint. Right away, the main character has a huggable energy without being a literal Baymax, and little kids both approach him easily and are terrified of him cuz of his *evil aura*. Him eating ice cream in a cold room cuz he's afraid it'd melt is precious—strawberry mochi and the promise of a baby panda saved the world ^^
Doctor Elise
As a pre-med, I was instantly drawn by this anime's premise. :P
Metallic Rouge
You know it gets real when that song plays during Rouge vs Viola ^^
Sengoku Youko
I went into this anime with no background knowledge besides the synopsis and the poster showing an awesome-looking white-haired character who I thought was Tama—the main visual has since changed to a more basic one showing the main trio, and Tama, it turned out, just looked like a little kid. Also, I thought Jinka's VA was Kiku from Rakugo Shinjuu, but that also turned out to be wrong—though he voiced Miyano, Moriarty, and Tanaka from Odd Taxi. :O

@ApocalypSnow I got you for the Ishura eye catches fam: This week's eyecatch: Golems (written as "machine demon") Demons made using non-living materials. To a varying degree, they have a mind, intelligence and life, and if they have the ability to pronounce, they can use Word Arts too. "Life" is given to them using the "Word Arts of Life", and if it gets damaged, they "die". Word Arts of Life A Life Seal is located in different positions on each one, and identifying it from outside is extremely difficult. (these were translated by MaL user @Embient so please credit them if you reuse this somewhere.)

Day 4 / Jan 5-6: Sasaki to Pii-chan "Is this is real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught up in a landslide...no escape from reality." - Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen Isekai with a pet, it's quite the unique feature that involves money...and paranormal psychic powers/abilities? Regardless, I feel that this will be one of the shows this season that will be slept on. You'd better not skip this... Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha I sure as hell did not expect this to be entertaining, but this has got me pleasantly surprised. An undead MC is already unique enough, and his goal to grow and become human again is a plot that interesting as character growth. A pleasant watch this will be one. Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ouji A Shoujo akin to Kamisama Kiss and Fruits Basket, it's been a while since we've gotten anime focusing on the Shoujo side. It's OK for now, so will have to see where this will go. Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata: Senjou wo Kakeru Kaifuku Youin It's every bit the same as Sokushi Cheat, though still unimpressed. How this Isekai will change my mind into the territory of good, it has a lot of work to do to convince me that this is better than that. Pon no Michi A Mahjong series since Saki or even Akaji / Kaiji? It's quite the unique original show this season. Just either watch it to learn about Japanese mahjong, or just for the CGDCT.

Day 5 / Jan 6-7: Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari Maybe's 3rd anime adaptation since Scared Beasts back in 2019, it's once again another decent showing, though it still gives me vibes from MAPPA's anime that largely is the same as this show. Still though, there is optimism for this one. Yubisaki to Renren This is peak Shoujo romance right here, and definitely one of the better shows this season. Koe no Katachi a.k.a A Silent Voice with romance? It's easily Shoujo fetish for the romance hearts. MASHLE: Kami Shinkakusha Kouho Senbatsu Shiken-hen One-Harry Potter-Punch Man is back with Mash, and he's about to face one of the biggest lessons in school. Beat the school system with your fists, Mash! Ore dake Level Up na Ken Well, well. The season's most hype show, coming from one of Korea's No. 1 popular Webtoon of all time, it truly delivered the full Solo Leveling experience. Only time will tell if A-1 Pictures can keep this level of hype incoming for the rest. Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu 2nd Season Being one of the standout shows of the Spring 2023 season, this romance show does feel fresh, and its characters strong. It's no surprise that this is getting the sequel now, and it may be more of the same, but it's still a romance show that's peak in its own right. Saikyou Tank no Meikyuu Kouryaku ~Tairyoku 9999 no Rare Skill-mochi Tank, Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou sareru~ Combine Shin no Nakama with Bofuri, and you'll get this show. It's quite the generic fantasy show, though it'll take much to impress of its offerings.

Day 6 / Jan 7-8: Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita 2nd To have a sequel after 2 years, Shin no Nakama is one of those series that only one thing matters: a good time of a slow life. It's still just as relaxing as Season 1 a few years back, and I'm ready to be blessed with a good time once again. Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa, Moto Tekikoku de Jiyuu Kimama na Hanayome Seikatsu wo Mankitsu suru Finally, something different from the villainess sub-genre that we've been seeing similar things over the past 4 years or so. I'm hoping that this'll break the similar Isekai trope of just gushing over similar matters from start to finish and give something fresh to the table. Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san A villain's day off? Everyone needs a day off, good or evil, to experience the fine things in life, from zoos to daily cooking at home. It's definitely something comforting and not to be taken seriously, so I appreciate the cooldown.

Day 7 / Jan 8-9: High Card Season 2 High Card is back, and I know that not a lot of people cared for Season 1, which I did, and it was a near-perfect setup for what's to come. Season 2 here will definitely get uglier, but I'm praying that the action will remain the same as before. Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 2nd Season Tsukimichi is back with Season 2, and it's double the capacity at 25 episodes long, despite being handed off to J.C. Staff (coz C2C is still very focused on Shangri-La Frontier). What this journey awaits us all, it's a slow burn...but it will be worth it in the long-run. Hime-sama "Goumon" no Jikan desu I'm like very surprised at this show for providing a tame torture, that at late in the night, is like a temptation to burn the midnight oil by snacking. It's definitely a better low-key show, though how all of this will go, remains to be seen. SYNDUALITY Noir Cour 2 Synduality: Noir is back for Part 2, and I'm still not impressed as of yet. Though Noir is the constant connection providing interest for this show, it still is yet to be seen of how Part 2 will redeem the setup of Part 1 as a whole, so all eyes are focused on this plot. Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi As if BokuYaba isn't enough, there is yet another show heating up the rom-com competition this season, and Dosanko Gal is a near potential for being one of the best shows of the season...but only time will tell if this sticks its plot. Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru This show is definitely not your usual rom-com, being of the Angels & Demons kind. That said, it sounds cliche as a comedy, though there is a need to see what lies ahead to make this a decent watch.

Day 8 / Jan 9-10: Akuyaku Reijou Level 99: Watashi wa Ura-Boss desu ga Maou dewa Arimasen There's just too many villainess shows that don't stand out from one another, and sadly this show still feels like one. Fingers crossed that this'll at least be a temperament different from the usual. SHAMAN KING FLOWERS Since there is Boruto for Naruto, then Flowers is considered the OG Boruto for Shaman King. I know that the 2021-2022 reboot/remake is considerably rushed and that not a lot of people gave a heck care about it, so I wish I have hope that this sequel Boruto series can be delivered in its own right.

Day 9 / Jan 10-11: Gekai Elise A Korean manhwa reverse Isekai, I'll give it that at least this is interesting than your usual typical Isekai reincarnation show. That said, Korean authors tend to be more creative with their Webtoons, so I'm hoping that this will be a small game-changer for the interest portions. 30-sai made Doutei da to Mahou Tsukai ni Narerurashii BL series are generally very hard to be accustomed to being a niche theme, let alone a good one on the level of the most recent high-profile series: Given. But this show? It can bring me back to those days of watching a good BL show, I hope it does deliver. Sengoku Youko Famed mangaka Satoshi Mizukami can be said as one of AniManga's most revered authors. The anime adaptations, however, have been both hit (Planet With) and miss (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer), and the 3rd rondo here through Sengoku Youko, I hope can be yet another hit, considering that White Fox is once again back on the anime track with the exceedingly rare 3-cour run (which I hope is a split-cour). Metallic Rouge Carole and Tuesday meets Blade Runner...for Bones's 25th Anniversary show. Still not feeling this as much, but will see wherever it goes.

Sengoku Youko That was a good first episode although it ended on a cliffhanger. It kind of reminds me of Inuyasha without the time traveling aspect that merges elements from the samurai era with a mythological fantasy setting. Tama and Jinka are on a journey to rid the world of evil and Shinsuke tags along hoping that he will just as strong as them. Metallic Rouge Meh first episode, so far it feels like a knockoff version of Blade Runner The Witch and the Beast This was a strong first episode for a series that I had little expectations for. The Witch and The Beast is shaping up to be another dark urban fantasy series like Undead Girl Murder Farce except this time we have a soft spoken male mage named Ashaf and a very violent girl named Guideau who was cursed by a witch. Their mission is to subdue the witches and take them back to The Order of the Magical Resonance. I wasn't expecting the third option to lift the witche's curse was to kiss the witch herself instead of killing the witch. In Guideau's case, kissing a witch releases the curse that was sealed in the girl's body into Ashaf's coffin in the form of a monster. This may be one of the hidden gems of the season.

Bucchigiri?! I have no idea what was going on, but it seems like SK8 meets JoJo's Bizarre Adventure if MAPPA is taking inspirations from the old Bucchigiri(Bad Boys Boggie) manga. The premise plays out the same way Rokudou's Bad Girls except this time the MC gets powers to fight off the delinquents in his class. What a wacky way to start the series. Meiji Gekken: 1874 I didn't know Crunchyroll originals were still a thing, but I'm still a sucker for historical dramas as the first episode has hooked me in real good. The aftermath of the Boshin war in Japan has lead the the Meiji Restoration era which marked the end of the Shogunate rule and the samurai clans. However there are still some ronin trying to topple the new Meiji government that is still vulnerable in its 7th year. Shizuma, a survivor of the Boshin war in Aizu is looking for his fiancee as a rickshaw driver while the ronin were planing on assassinating a Meji government official who escaped with his life. I knew the gambling den that was run by the yakuza was cheating, but who were the group of guys that attacked the gambling den with eye patch guy? Shizuma managed to save the police chief who lured the ronin into another ambush and is now being recruited into the police force which will help him find his fiancee faster if she still alive. This show was announced at the last minute before the Winter season started so I don't expect this to catch on while there are other shows out there. This show kinda reminds me of Revenger from last year, so maybe I'll put re-watching the Kenshin remake to the side to watch this one.
