Can I finally watch this after seeing the 2023 remake or I have to still see the Kyoto arc?

You could've watched this even before the remake it's about kenshin's battosai days

This OVA is adapted from the chapters which came after the Kyoto arc, you can watch it as a prequel but it was never meant as a prequel. It may just spoil some details in Kyoto arc, but like always I won't recommend it now. Maybe after second season, as it may start from the 2nd or 3rd episode of 3rd season.
Just go and read I'm in Love with the Villainess LN.

I see, how long is the Kyoto arc going to be in anime form then

Going by the original adaptation it was 34 episodes but did have some filler IIRC. I would assume the Kyoto arc would be about another 24 episode season at the minimum.

Definitely. It could be a standalone historical drama series, and is a incredible work

You’re right it wouldn’t hit the same at all. Watch it after the Kyoto arc but it could also be possible they remake this in the new anime bcs these chapters came out after Kyoto in the manga. Still, this ova is a masterpiece in animation and storytelling

Just wait for the remake to adapt it at this point. Or watch the Live Action version on Netflix. It's called Rurouni Kenshin The Beginning.

Ironically a friend of mine made me watch this and that’s what made me want to watch the original Kenshen anime.
I wish more people watched Chobits.

It’s a prequel, so you don’t need to watch any of it necessarily, but I would very highly recommend watching the Kyoto arc, especially considering that when the remake inevitably adapts that arc it will be nowhere near as atmospheric or brilliant as the original.

You can watch it whenever time you want. It's about Kenshin's hitokiri days.
Also, they are OVA episodes which means you can watch it even if you don't know the anime. Go and enjoy it's perfect. Literally my favorite anime.

For me, it's the best live action ever. They were stricted to manga, characters were good, scenario was awesome. I don't know what can I say

Watch it whenever you feel like it. It's an incredible standalone story. I watched it before the actual series (which I still haven't finished), and was blown away. It's still a personal favourite to this day, and is the biggest reason finding out about Watsuki's fucked up behaviour felt like such a punch to the gut.
Take care of yourself
