The original story was made, when AL didn’t really have a story (it was in a very rough spot at the time).

There wouldn’t be a season 2 if they decided to animate it, they would just start over.

Azur Lane is better with the SoL and comedy settings than a serious setting, more of this content is great.

I think AL works both ways. Right now the actual lore/ story is really good and I would love to see them start to animate it now, especially with the Meta girls, Arbiters, the events and the serious themes. The biggest problem is how they would actually animate it (some events being small, others being long).

SoL definitely works for it too, because a lot of the ships girls get implemented into the story as they release and everything is very calm and relaxing.
