Short series that is airing on the official Pokemon youtube channel

Idk if there is discussion about this already, can't find it anyways, but there is an entry to the series that was announced along with it (Paldean Winds) so I was wondering if there was a different animation studio behind it or something that means this technically isn't anime? But everywhere I look refers to it as an anime short series so I'm left with the impression that this is getting overlooked.

There are a lot of debates on what is anime and what isn't, but MAL specifically only accepts Japanese/Chinese/Korean animation, so if this one is Western, it will not be added (still a nice show!)

Yeah, I realize. But since Pokemon Company webseries like this tend to be classified as anime on here, I would have assumed the same for this one, though I can't say I know for sure who the animation team is. The style is different so it very well might not be anime, but it also might simply be made purposefully like that to mimic the player artstyle and customization in the online TCG scene since it's a series based on playing the card game. If it is a JP team that is making this though, I wouldn't want this series to be forgotten. We're now a good four episodes into it.

Although it has been classified by the Pokémon company as original net animation (ONA).

The Pokémon Company released a children's animation during the previews for the Yokohama World Championship (August 11, 2023), called Path to the Peak.

It was probably seen as an American animation since the US publication was published on August 11, 2023 (simultaneously with the Yokohama World Championship), while in Japanese it was released on August 14, 2023.

@Kikugi l'animazione e della TAIKO Studios società cinese di animazione cerca "TAIKO Studios Bidoof’s Big Stand" e "TAIKO Studios Pokémon: Path to the Peak"

@Leknaat, you could check the legitimacy conditions of the Chinese production of the animated mini series.

@Noctisnox, yeah, sorry, unfortunately this one doesn't meet MAL's DB guidelines. It will not be added.

The only thing I understood is that it is not considered valid because it shares work with many Western aspects. Confirm the question for me.

@Noctisnox The question being if it was considered an invalid entry, most likely due to the animation studio behind it, or if it was an anime that needed its page published.

Granted, I assumed if not JP then it would have been the US behind this, but looks like the studio was Chinese, but also partially based in California if I'm understanding its web page correctly? "TAIKO Studios was founded in 2017 by CEO Shaofu Zhang in both Los Angeles, CA and Wuhan, China."

At any rate, with that established, I find it understandable to not consider it anime. Question answered.

Comparing the company's data with the regulation, I believe that the problem is linked to the very nature of the company. On the "Linkedin" page, I quote: "TAIKO Studios was founded in 2017 by CEO Shaofu Zhang in both Los Angeles and Wuhan, China. As a truly international company, the studio endeavors to bridge eastern and western cultures together to create memorable stories with universal appeal".

This goes against regulation point I.2.2; there are most likely too many Western people involved in animation.

@Noctisnox Yes, we are quoting the same thing, and I agree with the regulation's sentiment. I only needed to confirm it, not finding the company behind the series myself.
