I haven't watched the anime yet, but i heard a lot of good things about the manga, so, as a manga reader, do you think the anime was a good adaptation?

It did its job in my opinion. Could've been better of course but it was certainly a loyal adaptation. Worth watching if you are fan of the manga.

I really enjoyed the experience and am excited for Season 2. I would recommend the animation for those who prefer this format over the comics.

A larger budget would've been welcome but I don't think it was compromising like some people made it look like

Not a manga reader but after finishing season 1, I already think i'd enjoy the manga more even if I haven't started it lolz.
The whole adaption feels soulless and kinda cheap at times.
Is not the worst adaptation , it just lack any form of ambition and creativity in their fight scene/ general choreography/ story telling.
Guess i'd start reading and decide if i should bother watching season 2 adaptation.

I’ve said before it’d be an alright/passable adaptation if this was handled by some other studio. However for Mappa standards, it was a complete embarrassment. That sounds harsh but think about it, the last big Mappa anime was Chainsaw Man which regardless of whether or not audiences liked it as an adaptation, the quality was undeniable and in just a few days Mappas golden child will return in the highest of quality, Jujutsu Kaisen. What worsens how bad this adaptation for HP was is how it looks compared to CSM and JJK specifically because those two in tandem with Hell’s Paradise we’re widely crowned as the “dark trio of shounen jump” but the quality of Hell’s Paradise’s animation, while at times good looking, was incredibly inconsistent and not even close to the level of CSM and JJK.

I’ve read the manga for all three and Hell’s Paradise was and still is my favorite of the trio but it’s so sad to see how it was treated compared to the other two. I understand if there were bad time constraints or any other messy studio things going on while this show was under production and I very much am sympathetic for the employees well-being but I just can’t not ostracize Mappa for this treatment to such a beloved series of mine.

I guess its fine, the anime does nothing to stand out as a adaptation, but also does nothing bad either, and thats ok, its direct copy paste from the manga just doing the basic, however, its a Mappa anime and being a Mappa anime makes people expect more of it (sometimes in a unfair way), if Jigokuraku was handled by some other studio being this "just right" adaptation would be seen as great, but since its Mappa people wants to see Jujutsu Kaisen levels of quality, and Jigokuraku is far from that as a adaptation, that doesn't mean it was bad, I think its worth as a manga reader to watch the anime.

It's been a while since I read the manga but anime was good, I think the manga portrayed the setting and overall feeling better but as anime goes it was alright. The thing I care for most is seeing Gabimaru vs Aza animated in the next season cuz it was my favorite fight in the whole manga and I hope that anime will do it justice

the adaption isn't bad but not great nowhere nearly as good as the manga, and the animation was lacking a bit lots of times considering it's made by mappa

The adaptation was loyal to the original work and it had it's moments but having the comparison to the manga in my head made it worse than it actually is. I had much more expectations from MAPPA when it comes to production quality, but I understand that they want to put their time & money to more popular projects like JJK or CSM. still very unfortunate tho. all those moments I liked when I've read the manga were more impactful and just hit more. still a good adaptation and I hope anime onlies are enjoying it!!
