| Goodness, I don't believe I've watched an anime episode THAT focused on a bridge since early Naruto way back in the day. This would've come out first of course, but you get the idea. I did find it kinda weird to be going into the extended childhood flashback well this early in, a mere 8 episodes, but it worked for me. Seeing young Ryotsu and his buddies pull that off for their friend Jun was genuinely touching. And although the reveal was obvious, I did like the Chief being involved too. Also, considering this came out in the 90s and the flashback was set in the 70s I wonder when the corresponding manga chapter this was based off of was written, assuming this episode wasn't anime-only that is. If it was written around that time it could work, but if it was a chapter from the 70s maybe the flashback could've been from the 50s or something, but who knows? Other than manga readers of course. :P |
