I think ichika has a number reasons to play dumb.

1st the childhood trauma from his kidnapping and what his big sister had to give up and do to get him rescued it may make him uncomfortable getting romantic involved because of this

2nd he is the only male that can use an I.S. frame that must give someone things to think about (anime watcher only) so I don't know if the LN addressed this point

3rd the situation of some of the main harem characters

to pick one would crush girl the others and those that had a rougher life it may be too much for them

4th he as two childhood friends and the rival turn love interest plus as the only male in school pick a girl would cause all kinds of problems for him, tye girl he pick and the school staff (plus one of the teachers as eyes on him)

it was series like this and in another world with my smartphone, death March to the parallel world rhapsody, Highschool dxd and Highschool of the dead made me a fan of the harem ending

BTW Luara and Charlotte are my favorite although Cecilia and Houkai not far behind

True. If I remember one of the girls did try to kill him or something. Honestly the harem genre is more of a survival tactic imo.

I honestly think the writers kept seeing the piss poor feedback bout their ball-less piss poor crappy excuse for a so called mc (yet even calling him a sub-male would be a reach for this panzy ass mc). They couldnt bear how everyone was calling out their pathetic good for nothing shit stain of an mc and inserted an excuse for how pathetic he is.
