Ok , so first of all . What's Shounen ?I learnt somewhere that it's something targeted for Teeange audiences . So how does this have 17+ R-rating then ? This anime doesn't even feel like a Shounen tho . Like your typical Shounens . So then why is this Shounen if it is not Shounen ? How do they put genre in animes ?

Complex Stories are basically sleeping pills . Helps to get some sleep .

It can be a shounen and not be typical…

Shounen means is was published in a shonen magazine in Japan.

That’s it.

Anything can be shonen, the content doesn’t matter at all.

It’s Shonen cause it ran in weekly shonen jump. And shonen literally means young boy. Plus there’s nothing in promised neverland I’d consider too much for a younger person since there’s plenty of others shonen with more mature and graphic content

The 17R rating is the American age rating, not the Japanese one. Demon Slayer has a 17R because of the violence/blood, and it’s a shonen that’s super popular even among elementary schoolers in Japan.

A shounen is a story that is aimed at young teenage boys, be it in themes or storytelling. Your "typical shounens" are shounens, but with a lot of fighting and usually superpowers. Anything aimed at young teenage boys is essentially a shounen. So shounen, is technically more like a demographic type, rather than a genre.

There is a common misconception, that shounen anime is just constant, high octane action, fights and NAKAMA MAMORU.

because it was published in shounen jump, a shounen magazine. The demography doesn't indicate content

Shounen is usually defined by what magazine it’s on. For instance, Attack on Titan and Rent a Girlfriend are both shounens even though they both feel so vastly different

Meanwhile a series like Kaguya Sama: Love is War is a seinen simply because its published in a seinen magazine. Even though it’s undeniable that Shounen series like Attack on Titan or Chainsaw Man are far more darker and gorier than it.

shounen is a genre that is aimed towards audience of adolescent boys(that's why majority of shounens out there are action based)....while shoujo is the opposite,...audience of adolescent girls.

1: It appears in shounen jump

2: It's rated R-17 because MAL age ratings are completely unreliable. Tpn is rated TV-14 in America

The manga is published in a shounen magazine so the anime's a shounen.

Shonen is targeted for boys in middle and early highschool as it's counterpart shojo is targeted for the same age range but girls instead of boys. It's basically a genre of anime based off where it was published, shows like Naruto, Dragon ball, and One Piece would be seen as the basic Shonen layout and vibe although there are also some Shonen aimed toward more mature audiences like Aot and Chainsawman

Shonen is where it's published and they all seem to be around the same genre a bit so the community made it a bit as a genre aside from just saying it's published in the same stuff as black clover and such

There is fun thing when I started to watch this anime I thought it supposed to be a comedy or fantasy/comedy(i didn't check beforehead).
I didn't read manga but I tell you that: First secon is good, but second... It's looked like lot of stuff was just cut out. I mean whole Civil War in demon's real in 15 minutes - are you serious?
I totally understand why 1st season has about 8 rate and secon about 6.
But still it was interesting experience.

If it's released in shounen jump magazine then it's a shounen. Shounen nowadays has pretty good variety.

To be fair, Spy x Family and Your lie in April is also shounen which has a very slice of life, drama, romance driven plot. And we'd normally classify shounen as action, adventure, and fantasy that's meant for all audience.

Shounen more so became more of a production house of Shounen Jump than a demographic. Because I think there's definitely a lot of anime, that if we discuss by demographic, are meant to be in Josei or Seinen.

the way shounen and seinen work is very different from the way R and pg13 work.

A shounen can be completely safe to watch for a kid, but be a seinen and vice vesa.

why?

because japanese people are apparently the only ones that understand blood and sex aren't the things that make a story more mature.

I mean look at monster.

It does show a few seconds of tits in none fanservice like contexts, but other than that it's way tamer than half the battle shounen out there.

but it is still far more mature than them and is clearly aimed at an older audience.

I would say a show simular to the promised neverland that IS seinen is made in abyss.

compare those 2 and I think you'll get why TPN is shounen.
