The meaning of Punpun face changes through chapter 100

Hey, I'm right now on chapter 100 and i'm trying to understand the meaning behind the change of Punpun's face, the face with 4 eyes, what i think it means is that Punpun isn't Punpun anymore, he is trying to become some else, that is why it was said that punpun died, the birdy face that he still has is a mask to cover his real desires and thoughts, in one part of the manga it says “In a few days,Taka’s soul had spread throughout Punpun’s body and except for minor signs of rejection it fit very well.”

I would like to hear some opinions of the interpretation you have about Punpun face changes through the manga.
