I finished 86 anime quite a while ago. And I recently got hooked up on Light Novels. And as I was browsing, I remembered that 86 had a good Light Novel. So I wondered from which volume should I read after Part 2 of the anime???

Like the others have answered, start from Volume 4.

You don’t need to worry about cut content. 86 has a great adaptation.
*coughs in Toaru Majutsu No Index, Mushoku Tensei*

Wait, so the story is still unfinished?!
I thought the series's story had already ended because of the last episode animation... lmao

Now I want a 2nd season after reading this thread...
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Mushoku Tensei didn’t cut much, and most of what it did wasn’t necessary. The Ariel stuff would have broken the flow of season 1 and can easily be covered at the beginning of season 2.

The novels are peak. I completed Ep.11 a while ago.
Part 1 adapts Ep.1 and parts of Ep.10
Part 2 adapts Ep.2 and 3
So start reading from Ep.4

Mushoku Tensei part 1 did not cut much other than short stories, but part 2 cuts important content for much later, such as the demon eyes, Zenith’s sister, Eris reason of leaving.

For people who have read the LNs, how do you think the unadapted material compares to what’s been animated so far?

I see people saying the Vols 2-3 arcs are some of the weaker material, but I just can’t fathom that given how good both cours were - 86 is one of my favorite shows ever. Does it seriously keep this quality the whole way through?

Yeah, Vol 1-3 are the weaker arcs. I accused it of being an Akito The Exiled rip-off at the start, only to be proven wrong later. >_>

I enjoyed Vol 4-6 more than the first 3 volumes.
Volume 7 can be boring at times.
Volume 8-9 are entertaining. I enjoyed than as much as Vol 4-6.
Volume 10 is a flashback to Shin’s past. I neither like it nor dislike it.

I enjoyed the later arcs. Hope this answers your question~b

Part 1 is a good adaptation but part 2, not at all.
The content cut makes me question how they will adapt the later volumes (LN Vol 14-15 to be exact).

I heard that the manga is even worse than the anime....

The anime covers the first 3 light novels. I recommend still reading the first 3 light novels, because there's some difference between the anime and light novels. But if you want to just pick up where you left off, start with Light Novel Volume 4. There's currently a total of 10 light novels with the 11th volume releasing next month on November 22. I highly recommend this light novel series. I've read them all through twice.

The cuts in the second half weren't as glaring as you're saying. I'm sure the volume extras will be shown in s2. As for Zenith's sister, I have to agree that they were not supposed to be cut, as it was a bit incomplete, only after I read the LN did I discover that she was the one who helped them to board the vessel

wtf, 10 volumes, still unfinished and the anime just covered 3?

The story could end in that perfect end of this season.

I hope the author dont spoils the plot (even more) milking it with cliche, like an obvious love triangle of the ultra-dense Shin, and Lena x Kurena.
