I can’t understand why the princess is obsessed with Ikta, when she seemingly has no plans for her country. Earlier in the show she seemed to feel bad for ikta but takes no responsibility for her country as princess when she saw the state of the north garrison. The last episode she just doubles down on her Ikta will solve it attitude, it’s so annoying.

It is only explained in the LN. Chamille grew up in Kioka and learnt that Absolute Monarchy is inferior governing system as compared to Democracy because the Empire has been corrupted. Hence, her plan is to reform the Empire. She believes that Ikuta is a great tactician based on how he plans to rescue them back to the Empire and carried out in the training exercise. And he is the only one that detects the abnormally of her bodyguards.

This is explained in Vol 7. Well, the plot from Volume 6 onwards is a filled with ton of plot twists~

Thanks for the explanation! I like that the characters are interesting. It’s cool when a character makes you feel something even if you don’t like it.

Aside from the above comment, I mean he did save her from drowning and brought her to shelter. And he's attractive? I'd be surprised if she didn't have any feelings for him lol

It was kind of answered already, but I just want to stress up that Chamille definitely has plans for her country, and she has them from the start : the very reason she was on the boat in episode 1, where she was NOT supposed to be, was to scout potential future great tacticians that she needs to put her plans in motion. She's trying to recruit them from a young age before they go through the whole military process, because older military men are too stuck in the current system and their own responsibilities, even when they're good peoples and very talented; so they will not make the things move as this would mean abandon their duty/put in danger those they've sworn to protect. She found in Ikta and his group very talented peoples that are open enough to follow her lead, and Ikta in particular is extremely aware of the terrible state of the Empire's upper echelon, on top of being particularly promising as a military leader. That's why she picks him for her plan, believing that no one is more suited to carry them out.

While Ikta's group is very high spec in general, all very talented to extremely talented/gifted in at least one area if not in several, Chamille is the most talented and most outstanding individual of them all. Her intelligence, determination, potential physical prowess, ability to learn, and selflessness are all through the roof. Ikta and Yatori in fact later become scared for her due to how extreme her selflessness is, and try to protect her from herself and teach her to be more selfish.
