| Kind of a question to ask, but given all of the chapters of the manga, are Chito and Yuuri tragic heroines since the first chapter? Discuss and poll. |

| No, not in the traditional sense. I’d hardly call Chito and Yuuri “heroes,” they’re primarily explorers and don’t really act out of a sense of justice or virtue, they just wanted to survive and learn about the world around them. Their “downfall” is only caused by them blindly trusting their father’s (grandfather?) advice about reaching the top level, rather than their own arrogance or hubris. Aristotle says tragic heroes are “flawed individuals who commit, without evil intent, great wrongs or injuries that ultimately lead to their misfortune, often followed by tragic realization of the true nature of events that led to this destiny,” and I’d say they don’t meet either of the main criteria. Maybe the tragedy part, but not the hero part. |
