How does the anime compare to the manga?

I've been wanting to get into this show for a while now and am just wondering if it's better to watch it or just read the manga.
I mainly wanna know how faithful it is to the source material, how good the animation and voice acting are, and how good the manga art itself is.

The anime version is atrocious compared to the manga. But maybe not too bad standing on its own.
