do you mean sad and emotional anime? if so then watch these animes :
clannad
maquia (movie)
wolf children (movie)
anohana
assassination classroom
angel beats
plastic memories
sangatsu no lion
or just watch some shonen animes like one piece and gintama which has sad moments

If you are looking for similar melancholy tones with themes around self discovery and mental health, I'd urge you to check out March Comes in Like a Lion, and the movie Silent Voice.

not as sad but ancient magus’ bride has a somewhat similar vibe with some emotional episodes!! there’s also the same type of student-older mentor romance if you liked that

Maquia, it’s just as emotional and tho the animation isn’t violet evergarden levels; it ain’t average

Vivy: Flourite Eye’s Song is very different genre wise (it’s hard sci-fi) but they have some strong thematic similarities.

Vivy is similar to Violet in that they both are almost alien to humanity and want to better understand it, and both start with very blank, stoic personalities. Similar to Viole, Vivy created relationships with people and grows through them.

I’d recommend Vivy to most fans Violet Evergarden, if you enjoy some shonen-style action

Iv watched many "sad animes" but violet just hits different. I don't think I am ever going to cry as hard as I did in the last movie

Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet. It isn't as psychological or brutal, but it might make you cry.

Honestly I'm not sure if there's anything quite like it. For some reason dead poets society comes to mind but that isn't that similar and isn't even an anime.

Might not be the moving feeling you're looking for but in my opinion idolm@ster side m was an absolute masterpiece. The characters are rather plain but in a GOOD way, unlike the stereotype kira kira idols. They all had different backgrounds but are all chasing the same dream, isn't that beautiful? I really enjoy idol animes but this was really on another level. It got me smiling before I noticed it. I really recommend this.

I love Violet Evergarden! From animation, design to story an emotions! It is one of the best in its genre.
You could try one of these and see if they work for you if you are looking for the dramatic, deep feelings:
- Your lie in april
- Angel beats
- Boku dake ga inai machi
- Orange
- Sakura-sou no pet na kanojo
- A silent voice

try Fumestu no Anata, was in last season’s list. MC starts out not knowing much about their purpose in life and as the show goes on they grow into their character and develop their own ideals.

Violet evergaden is my fav anime, and made in abyss is my #2, so I would definitely recommand it to you. Don’t judge the show on the first 2-3 episodes though. I would also recommand erased, but the end of the anime is rushed and stupid, so reading the manga would be better.
