It's to finish up the Golden Age Arc, the one that wasn't concluded in Berserk 1997. When I watched this, I skipped to about the 4/5ths mark to see what happened after the eclipse. Graphics are disgusting, has less character development, is pretty much a shorter version of 1997, which is a less fleshed out version of the manga. There is no reason to fucking watch it except for "oh Casca memory erased and Guts is living with the Brand woooooh so worth it" ffs

Dude there's no berserk project who's capable of challenging the manga because the high quality of the drawings is so hard to animated it beside the non perfect adaptation of the Chapters..
So to be honest that's all they can do, unfortunately.

The movies would actually be decent if the CGI wasn't such a turnoff.

There are plenty of studios that can do this. Look at the detail in WIT's AoT productions. The actual problem is that anime studios are usually overburdened so they spread talent as thin as possible throughout multiple simultaneous anime productions and Berserk just doesn't seem to be popular enough in Japan to justify a lot of effort on a stellar anime adaptation.

You get the bonus casca Griffiths sex scene too at the end. Which was animated amazingly

sex scene or rape scene? Man, one of the reasons i didnt like the 1997 ending was because it just ends after casca gets raped. leaves a bad taste.

I think if you rewatch that scene, you will find that.
In the anime series this is depicted as a traumatic scene.
But in the movie it feels like casca is horny instead.
