| There have been many arguments through the years as for what is considered a shonen. There are the typicals that aren't up to discussion, like Naruto, One Piece, Boku No Hero Academia, Fairy Tail, Demon Slayer, Bleach, JoJo, Black Clover et.c, that follow some specific formulas and share many elements in common. What about other manga/anime that were released by shonen jump, like Death Note and Attack On Titan, but differ from the basic formulaic shonen. They contain heavier themes, more gore and have a darker attitude. Should we consider them shonen or seinen? |

| there have been many arguments about this and many get this wrong but considering the amount of adult material and subject matter AoT has it's specifically catered to a seinen demographic. Death Note literally says its a shonen i mean shonen jump literally serialized it. i read the manga and watched the anime and it said it was a shonen. |

| I feel like both are Shonen. AOT is obviously more graphic and almost considered Seinen but it is an action filled plot-based anime and it feels directed to a much younger demographic. Death note on the other hand is not just graphic but also very psychological. Anyways i watched it when i was young so i guess it's a shonen. > I think these genre's are hard to define if there has not been a word from the writers or producers about it. |

| On a surface level, AoT, would be labeled a shonen. That said, the intricacies and detail, along with the subplots and various elements all along make it out to be more of a seinen with adult themes. Especially if you watch season four, where the repercussions from a wartime scenario impact the lives of everyone, not just the main group of characters, but whole nations. |
