Anime with characters as deep and well developed as the Monogatari series

I recently finished Monogatari and I have to say my favorite part overall was the characters. I love their witty, thoughtful conversations and how they just seem "real". I won't get super deep about it (not that I could even if I wanted to) but characters like this are what make or break a show to me. So if you have any recommendations please list them!
The show can be about anything, I'm open to any genre. I'd watch a show about 2 people stuck in a room watching paint dry if the characters were Monogatari level.

Maria-sama ga Miteru (Marimite) -- With a helpful chart to help with the terminology early on.

For me at least nothing even comes close. All the main characters get one or more arcs for us to get to know them very well. Yumi's (and Sachiko's) character development by the end of season 4 is really cool to see. A character that gets introduced in season 2 as an antagonist gets almost epic character development by the end of the show (Touko).

Of course there are a few more definitely worthy of mentioning :)

Oniisama e -- Fewer characters but the drama is intense. The trials of some of these characters makes for a bingeworthy experience. Much darker than Marimite.

Nana -- Very immersive. We get to know the two Nana's very well.

Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin -- Even darker than Oniisama e as we get to know all the boys in this prison.

Haibane Renmei -- Another deeper show but hard to understand the motivations of all the characters without some outside reading (afterwards, of course, due to spoilers).

+1 3-gatsu no Lion -- In this list mainly for Season 2.

Versailles no Bara -- Another long, older series by the same author as Oniisama e: Ikeda Riyoko, one of the "Year 24 Group" of acclaimed mangaka.

Chihayafuru -- A decent size cast that we get to know well.

Hibike! Euphonium -- Especially season 2 and the Liz to Aoi Tori movie.

Simoun -- A large cast with interesting personalities.
