no the visitor arc is placed before the movie ...its the continuation of s1 and discuss all important things happened before the movie arc so yeah just watch last episode of s1

Havn't read the LN but after watching the first episode of S2 I think you should cause Tatsuya destroyed the navy fleet in the movie iirc and that is the reason that triggered the events of this arc it seems.

In the movie,

Scorched Halloween was when Tatsuya used Material Burst to annihilate the Great Asian Union Naval Fleet in the Jinhae Naval Port and Geojedo Base. This was in the last episode of the first season.

The movie starts with Lina arriving to Hawaii (i think) after the events of the Visitor Arc only to receive new orders. The movie is not canon but it does reveal somethings that are to be revealed in the Visitor Arc, like Lina being Angie Sirius (this is not really a spoiler cuz it literally comes up in the beginning of ep1 of S2).

Basically, it is fine to watch the movie before S2 because it hardly (if not at all) reveals anything major in the Visitor Arc but, it is definitely recommended to watch the Visitor Arc before the movie because of chronological order.

Just try to forget the USNA people from the later part of movie and you shall be able to enjoy the current season. Mahouka isn't your typical anime where knowing a little would kill all the enjoyment of the series.
